Just one word----excellent. A gem which brightens up a rather untidy neighbourhood.
It is an easy walk to the harbour area and a quick cheap taxi ride to the city.

The hotel is amazing ciche decor with wonderful friendly staff super facilities and near to metro and all sights, Carlos is one in a million as was Andy the barman from Manchester.

The hotel was a wonderful place to stay especially with the internet discount it made it worth every penny. The facilities are all up to par and very cozy, modern looking.

Great hotel

I have just returned from a four-night stay at this hotel in Barcelona and I can honestly say that it is one of the best hotels in which I have stayed. I chose the hotel from the reviews on TripAdvisor and it is certainly true about the location! When you get off the metro at Bogatell it is a bit worrying as the area is very run-down, but when you eventually find the hotel it is an oasis.

We had two rooms on the 6th floor facing the rear of the hotel and looking out over a little bakery. The rooms were really well decorated and clean with wonderful marble bathrooms. The free mini-bar (soft drinks) re-plenished daily, was a revelation. The room was quiet and the double-glazing cut out any traffic sounds.

The breakfasts were really good - fruit, meat, cheese, cereals, scrambled egg, toast and croissants - everything you could want and the dining room was large. We ate in the resturant one evening, but this was costly and not a great choice of dishes.

The staff at the hotel speak good English and are very friendly and helpful; they kept our luggage in a locked room until we left in the evening. We paid £75 a night through Alpharooms and this was a bargain for a big city hotel.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Don't worry about the location - it is in a horrible area but it is safe to walk out and about.

we stayed at the pere iv for three nights, got back on sunday 20th march. we booked after reading the reviews on this sight, we were not dissapointed. really good value for money. we booked with alpha rooms £178 inclusive of an excellent buffet breakfast. the hotel is modern and clean. the rooms are spacious. the restaurant had no real atmosphere, although pleasant, good value pre fix menue 19euro 3 course includes water and a good bottle of wine.
the down side is the location, however a 5 min walk and you are at the metro Boggatell st. with a direct line to the beach, marina bottom of the rambles and more... i will mention the noise level we were on the 5th foor thankgoodnes because below the very quite street during the day comes to life during the early hours mostly with young spanish teeangers turning out of the the bars and disco. bit like home really.

Returned on Monday from a 4 day trip to Barcelona. The hotel was lovely, very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Didn't actually have time to visit the spa facilities but had a quick nose and they seemed nice enough. We ate in the hotel on the first evening as the weather was so terrible, the 19 euros for 3 courses seemed very good value but we ate from the a la carte menu. The food was excellent but here is my only complaint - I chose starter and main from the starter menu as these were the only veggie choices. The breakfast was okay though as there was loads of choice. The bar service was good. The minibar was great and came in very handy when trying to get rid of my hangover. Agreed, the surrounding area is not particularly posh or clean but didn't really affect us as it was only a 5 minute walk to the metro (Bogatell). There were a few bars, clubs and restaurants around the hotel but we didn't try any of them as our schedule was pretty full. We returned from our day out on Saturday - my partners birthday - and there was a bottle of cava for us to help celebrate it, I thought this was a lovely personal touch.

Great Value

For the money this hotel ranks very highly despite its rather grubby location. My partner and I enjoyed a three night break booked via Superbreaks at a discount, last minute and we were suprised about the quality of the hotel for the price we paid. The good points of the hotel were the friendly and approachable staff, the fantastic choice at breakfast and the leisure facilities. On the downside we found our room to be although very large, dark and stuffy,also, a radio or music channel would have been nice. We found that the rooms seemed quite noisey as sounds seemed to travel even though we were on the eigth floor. We loved the free soft drinks in the mini bar. The main hotel bar was also cheap and generous measures!

Fine Hotel in rather an unusual setting

Finding this hotel in the midst of a rather run down area of Barcelona was a bit of a disappointment, but as we explored we found we could walk to the sea in 10 minutes, and to Port Vell via the promenade in 20minutes, which improved the whole situation. The hotel is really quite plush, the rooms had everything we needed, and we were impressed to find that soft drinks in room fridge were replaced daily free! The staff were very helpful, and knowledgeable about Barcelona and where to go. The only possible discontent was that breakfast was definitely better some days than others,but the Menu del Dia which started badly improved rapidly each day, and at 18 euros for 3 courses plus a bottle of wine , and a bottle of water, wasn't to be turned down. It is definitely a hotel I would visit again, particularly as we now understand that the whole area will be refurbished over the next couple of years.

Like the hotel, but location inconvenient

We chose the hotel for the indoor pool (February!) which we enjoyed.
Not a convenient position for walking, though not too far to Metro. Also the area (light industrial) is not very scenic, though not threatening.
The saving grace was the reasonable taxi costs (about 6 euro to Sagrada Familia, Port Vell or Ramblas).
Out of centre location made it reasonably quiet: main disadvantage was few restaurants in local area for the evening - we mostly ate lunchtime and snacked in the evening (Try the Panaderia at the back of the hotel for great value sandwiches,drinks, pastries).
We found the rooms comfortable, staff helpful, good breakfast, bar nice though service a little erratic. Telepizza room service good. We thought it was good value.

Loved it

Stayed at the hotel from 8th -10th February, the area did not look very appealing but the hotel was brilliant everywhere was clean and the decor was very bright and colourful. All the little extras in the room were a nice touch. Breakfast was plentiful and suited us. Excellent value for a 4* hotel. The metro was a five minute walk and very efficient. Tube and bus passes were excellent value. Would definately stay here again on our next trip.

Excellent hotel, will be going back as soon as possible!

Myself and my husband have just returned from a 4 night stay in this hotel and it was superb. I booked this hotel based on the reviews and it did not disappoint! The hotel is out of the city but the metro is around the corner and it is easy and safe to use. The hotel itself is immaculate, the lobby and bar are welcoming and the staff couldn't be more helpful. We wanted to attend a football match and reception were able to provide us with tickets and transport to the game. The room was clean and comfortable with a fridge stocked with complimentary soft drinks replaced daily. We dined in the hotel two nights and the menu was varied, we had the daily menu for 19 euros each which included three courses, water and wine, fantastic value! I would recommend this hotel if you want an above average four star hotel and don't mind being out of the city, at least it's quiet at night!!

great hotel but word of warning

This is an up market hotel at an excellent price. sparkly clean and very comfortable, really good breakfast with lots to choose from. Also the bar was great; freindly barman and great vallue for money drinks. Location was just not as 'central' as described and nothing much in the area to offer by way of restaurants and no shops at all. Bit difficult to find. Two minute walk from Bogatell Metro Stn (yellow line), on leaving the station entrance walk straight ahead and take fist left and then second right. Hotel is on right.

FANTASTIC HOTEL!!

I have recently returned from a 3 night break with my partner, and we can both say that this hotel truly lives up to the other positive reviews of this website. Hotel was exceptionally clean, room was a perfect size with lovely hidden extras, such as the free soft drinks. Bathroom was gleaming for the whole stay, and our beds and room were cleaned every day. For the money, this is a hotel that you wouldn't mind paying more for as it is so good. Bogatel metro station was a short walk round the corner, and was an excellent base doe exploring the city. We are already planning our next trip to this superior hotel, away from all the hustle and bustle of the city, but with everything you could ask for, from a hotel. Special mention to the staff who could not be more helpful.

Top Local Tips for Barcelona

You can walk everywhere - but you don't have to We walked for miles, from the Olympic Village, through the old town & up to the Sagrada Familia. Lots of great local bars to stop at for a beer or a coffee if you need them. We enjoyed the cable car ride out over the harbour to Miramar, a bit expensive for what it was but took some great photos.

Be Alert Con artists plentiful on the streets. If in doubt leave the area.

Going in February We went in mid-February. Not the dry season, but it doesn't matter. Temperatures mostly 12-17 deg. C (54-63 deg. F). Ideal for walking about-the best thing to do once you've seen the sights. It (still) goes a bit quiet in the afternoons, but livens up in the evenings. Don't go out for dinner until after 8pm. It's better going this time of year. Summer can be very hot, especially when seeing the sights and just walking about.
