As a business traveller I found the Majestic Hotel to be an excellent base camp. Located in the heart of the city, within walking distance of the shops, international restaurants and places of interest. The Hotel its self is a great piece of architure and offers the be-dragled city visitor luxury, relaxing ambiance, and excellent service.

This hotel is amazing. The location is fantastic. Walking distance to everything. Ideal for shopping lovers. Service is excellent and staff makes you feel at home. This hotel is a must. Don't miss the view from the rooftop pool.

Please, whatever you do, spend your money elsewhere. I was supposed to stay at this hotel for FOUR NIGHTS (April 4-8,2004). However, due to the coldness/unaccommodating nature of the front desk staff, as well as a room that was in bad need of a paint job (Room 523), and after TWO UNFORTUNATE NIGHTS, I finally got smart and decided to CHECKOUT. The room was superbly located (5th floor, balcony view of Paseo de la Gracia), but the room was horrible. Absolutely, UNACCEPTABLE in its' presence. The only good thing about the hotel? Fifteen Euros, flat fee cost for internet use/business center, for entire length of stay. I was so happy to leave, and go to the wonderful rooms, and spirit of the people at HOTEL AXEL!! Half the cost, and by U.S.A. standards, a truly WONDERFUL HOTEL.

I would like to take this opportunity to answer to the comment "Please do not waste ..." First of all, I would like to apologize if this client did not enjoy his stay as guest satisfaction is one of our key goals. This is probably why we won for the 2nd year in a row the prestigious 5-star Diamond award and have gained probably all the quality assurance certificates that are available. Concerning the rooms, I wanted to inform the readers that we are currently working on renovating all of our rooms. The suites have been completed last winter with the creation of a Penthouse, the largest in downtown Barcelona. I would like to reemphasize on our dedication to guest satisfaction and to make their stay the most enjoyable.

I found the staff at the Majestic to more than make up for the rooms, which while not quite five-star, were extremely clean, functional and very nice. The bilingual staff at the front desk went out of their way to help us with directions, reservations, and help with our lost luggage. There was also a lovely piano bar, a delicious buffet breakfast (although expensive). The location was perhaps the best in Barcelona, surrounded by Gaudi architecture and walking distance to almost every major attraction.

I do appreciate guests comments but would like to some precisions.
Hotel Majestic do care about the details which make it one of the best 5-star hotel in Barcelona.
The Drolma Restaurant is a one-star Michelin restaurant where tables are very spread out but can understand that the cigar smoke may incomodate some other guests. It is though a tradition in Europe that cigars can be smoked in such kind of restaurants.
Concerning the rooms equipment, all of them have bathrobes, kleenex boxes in the bathroom, plugs for laptops on the desk (we are working on it right now), alarm clocks are on the TV and spring water can be found easily on the minibar or through room service which operates on 24h basis. Concerning the air conditioning, all our rooms have an independent climate control which makes the temperature vary in each room of + or - 2 degrees celsius.
Th rooftop swimming pool is one of the largest of downtown Barcelona (270 sq ft) and could not be bigger for security reasons (heavy weight) as it is built on top of a classified building of 1918.
The terrace does have security rails all around and children are under the vigilence of their parents as it is anywhere. The drop down is one floor as there is a terrace just underneath.
The breakfast is not necessarily included, it depends on the package booked, and costs 20 euros each for a full american buffet. We also have just launched a café/croissant at our bar every morning for 9 euros per person.
Th hotels provide a smoking and a non-smoking section in the restaurant and we do have 3 non-smoking floors.
I think we needed to make these precisions.

We stayed at the Majestic for 5 nights. The service is ok however they did not change or replaced our bathroom amenities (soap, etc..)during our stay. The rooms are very small and there is only heating for during winter and spring (it was march and the temerature outside was already rising) we had to sleep with the windows open. Food was very good but high priced. I travel all over the world and stay at the best hotels, this was ot definetively a 5 star. It was an extremelly expoensive 4 star (330 euro a night for normal room). My rates have been lower at the Le Grand Paris, or the Palace in Madrid with much better rooms.

A hotel that needs more attention to detail.

This is a man's hotel, and not women friendly. The city's most expensive restaurant reeks of cigars, and the rooms need to be aired out. Small details like bathrobes that are soft and comfortable, kleenex in the room, plugs for laptops in the desks, alarm clocks, doors that do not slam shut with incredible noise, and sound-proofing would be useful. As well, the water supply of the city of Barcelona requires visitors to have spring water, this was not provided or even easily available. Heating and air-conditioning are very uneven and cannot be controlled.

The pool on the roof is laughable - it is exactly 12 feet by six feet and unheated. They should simply put whirlpool jets in it and accept the fact that it is nothing more than a big bathtub. The roof also is unsafe for children as it has no safety rails and a very large drop down. While the staff of this hotel are very nice, the lack of attention to detail means this is no more than a businessman's hotel for very short stays, and the fact that at least half the rooms have a terrible view of a concrete carpark is another consideration. Breakfast is not included, is eaten in the basement and is 26 Euros. There are no no-smoking areas in the hotel.

We stayed at the Majestic for 3 nights during our honeymoon upon recommendation of a frequent traveler to Barcelona. The location is great, it's away from all the touristy places and is located in a very nice/quiet fashionable district. Shopping is very near to be found. The architecture on this street is amazing!!!! You are within 2 minutes walk to a couple of buildings designed by Gaudi. Barcelona is an amazing town, we absolutely loved it. The one hang up that I have about the Majestic is that while we were there during August 2003, there was construction happening on to the facade of the building therefore the front of the building had a huge advertisement on it. The front desk was very nice and sent up a bottle of champagne to our room, upon informing them that we don't drink, they sent up a plate full of fruit along with mineral water, a very nice gesture. This hotel was very nice and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

This is one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in. My room was gorgeous, everything obviously top of the line and service was impeccable. Loved this hotel and the treatment very much. Will definitely be back!

Just as reported - a fabulous place to stay! We had a junior suite on a 3 for 2 offer which made the price very competitive. Friendly, helpful staff; late check-out no problem. Superb location for exploring the city and a welcome retreat after doing so. The only down side (if there has to be one) is that there is no air-con in the winter.

The hotel is superb. The rooms are excellent and the location is first class. The restaurant (Drolma) was very expensive. However there are some excellent restaurants/tapas bars close by. I would recommed this hotel highly.

The best hotel in the city

The hotel has the best location in the glamorous " Paseig the gracia" in the same hotel bulding you have CHANEL and ARMANI shops . The service it is marvellous, warm wellcome and very nice with the customers.Food it is excellent. Don´t miss the Drolma Restaurant Phillip Stark lamps and Versace China. Lovely FOOD experience!!!Great memories!!!

Great Hotel

We stayed for three nights in the Majestic. We booked it online at a very reasonable rate. Its location is excellent and the views from the roof are great. The room was a little on the small side but very well furnished. The staff were very friendly. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are planning a return trip in 2004

Top Local Tips for Barcelona

Pick Pockets la rambla is a crazy place full of a mix of people just watch your wallets and ersonal things as we seen at least 3 people being targeted for pick pocketing

Tapas Shop around for Tapas - try out the different restaurants in easy walking distance from the Hotel.

Blue and Red Tourist Buses These buses are a great way to get around, you can buy a day or two day pass, would recommend the two day pass, get on the buses stay on and do the full tour then plan which attactractions you want to go to and see in detail, you can not cover everthing in just few days. You can get on and off the blue and red buses as much as you want, mixing the two using the one ticket. You get a brief description for each attraction by the tour guide on the bus just before you get to each stop. La Sagrada Familia is definitely worth seeing. We also booked a walking tour around the Gothic area, this is well worth the money and gives a real insight to the Gothic area.
