Enjoyed the stay

My family and I had a fabulous time in Barcelona the hotel was a perfect location for touring and site seeing. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The only negative was we did book and pay for breakfast but when it came to checking out the hotel made us pay extra - but it was not so bad that it ruined our holiday just a misunderstanding. The hotel is a good value, but I would imagine that in the high season it could be a bit of a bother. If you want quiet and luxury then go to a 4 star or 5 star but all in all I'd plan to come back to the Gran Ducat for my next visit to Barcelona.

Even for the price we found the hotel good value for money. The location is great (1 min walk to main square, La Rambla & the bus tour stops) and although there was some noise outside late at night and from the metro, it did not disturb us. The bedroom and bathroom were bright and clean. We have seen a couple of less than complementary reviews about the hotel and wanted to balance them out because we enjoyed a pleasant stay there.

We were very impressed with this hotel for the price. Everything worked perfectly, was clean and efficient. Breakfast was lovely, with a good selection (fresh croissants especially recommended). The location of this hotel is excellent. Really cannot find any fault within this price range - thoroughly recommend to budget weekenders who don't mind a small (but very clean and well equipped) room.

My worst nightmare

The reception desk is almost on the main street hence my laptop almost got stolen (and the staff didn't care) had no hot water in 8 days of staying here.
I asked to see the manager many times but she was never there. The nights were cold and there was no heating, I was told all the rooms were the same.
Spain's largest department store's loading bay is across the road so it was noisy all night long.
How could I forget to mention the fight for a table to eat breakfast, what a las shambles it was. I could list many more reasons, but you've been warned.

Visited on October 27, 2005. 1) The air conditioning was set on heating and could not be changed for any of the rooms. The rooms were very hot and uncomfortable. 2) There is no place for baggage storage except a very small room down a narrow staircase from the lobby/foyer. Hence a severe hardship for old people and with no security. 3) Over priced breakfast room with minimal choice 4) Lobby and other staff and involved in organized theft of guest's valuables at the hotel.

Top Local Tips for Barcelona

metro and buses Found it very easy to navigate by metro - just as in London. Also buses run very frequently to all areas of the city and the tour buses take you to all sites, just hop on and off as you want. Of course, taxis are always available but it's quite exciting to get about under your own steam!

Aerobus Use the aerobus from the airport to Plaza Catalunya - onlyy 6.70 euros for a return trip! Takes 30 minutes and the buses run every 10 minutes - a great service!

Aerobus To get to the city centre, use the Aerobus which runs every few minutes from the Airport terminals to the Praca Espanyol and Praca Catalunya. It costs 3,90 Euro p.P., and we found it a very fast and clean way to the in the city.
