What a beautiful Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had booked a last minute holiday last May. Having only booked for 4 of us, we called 2 hours before departing from Gatwick to request an extra bed as another friend was going to join us on our trip. The staff couldn't be more helpful if they tried. They even changed one of our rooms, moving everything themsleves and placing it back exactly as they had found it.

Breakfast was delightful, bucks fizz on a help yourself basis was a great start to our day.

We had our purse stolen by the marina and informed the hotel staff who immediatley advised us who to contact and how to find the police.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone. The decor was very beautiful and opulant.

Fab!!! Fab!!! Fab!!!

Planning a special weekend away is often difficult and with all the hotels on offer in Barcelona, I wanted everything to be perfect. After much research and deliberation, I decided on the Avenida Palace, and believe me I was not disappointed. The location was superb - not too near but not too far to the centre of Barcelona. Best of all the wife was over the moon!!!

We were able to walk to all the touristy places, in particluar Las Ramblas (about 5 minutes tops). I saw other popular hotels en route and was pleased I chose the Avenida Palace.

The next time I visit Barcelona I will book the Avenida Palace because I know I can be guarenteed quality.

Can I also suggest Le Pintor restaurant in the Gothic quarter - it is slightly expensive but real good quality.

An excellent hotel!

My husband and I had a wonderful stay in the Avenida Palace. Our room was great, it was on the 8th floor with a fantastic view over the city (do ask for a front facing room). The service was excellent, polite, friendly and professional. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Barcelona, it is positioned centrally, within easy access of museums, restaurants, the airport train and the metro - perfect!

Superlative can only be used to describe our stay at the Avenida Palace Hotel. Service, accommodation and personnel proved to be of finest quality. Highly recommended. Will definitely stay at the Avenida Palace Hotel when I return to Spain.

Room with a View

from CEESalisburyEngland
We stayed here last year, for our honeymoon. We were told we would have a room with a view - we had a dark room that looked out onto a brick wall and concrete courtyard! We found the staff to be quite unwelcoming, everything seemed too much effort for them. We also had a problem with the water in our bathroom - it was dark brown and smelt, when we complained and asked to be given another room, they shrugged their shoulders and said they couldnt help! Disgusting service! The location of the hotel is fantastic and on first sight it looks amazing but I would not waste another euro in that hotel. Still, they have added to the memories of our honeymoon - just not the way we thought!

ve ever been

it's a rip-off hotel and it's way under a four-class hotel - it should rather be classified in a two star.

the staff was very unpolite (they even didn't say hello or goodbye). although we were confirmed for an outside room, they first gave us a inside. further more they wanted to charge us more than they confirmed.

they change the linen only every three or four days, the ceiling of the bathroom was very dirty. all in all the room was very old and filthy.

if you're looking for a hotel in barcelona, don't look for this one!

A Very Good Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We enjoyed our stay in this lovely hotel.

The location is the best in Barcelona, no douts at all. the nearest metro station is just 50 meters from the hotel. the hotel is located in the most beautiful main street in BCN, and is very close to the Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter and the other attractions.

Breakfasts were very good and service was good.

We didn't have a view to the city, but the room was very quiet and well equipped.

I would recommend this hotel for tourists.

Great Place to Stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Avenida Palace is a great place to stay, we booked directly with the hotel and got a great deal and free upgrade (it's worth asking for any offers). The hotel is in a great location, central to most places on foot. Metro is close by for short trips around / out of the city. Barcelona is a great place lots to see and do, and keep most people happy with a variety of choices. Recommend the hotel and City to everyone - Fabulous.

nicest hotel of the whole trip

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed 1 night at this hotel in the end of May 2004. We received the same day reservation from the Tourist info center at Plaza Cataluna after our book hostel was a nightmare. The Avenue palace is just 1 block North of the Ramblas and was the nicest hotel of the whole trip. This 4 star hotel is wonderful and full of luxury. The staff was pleasant and spoke perfect English and many other languages. The hotel has full valet service and the 2 floor lobby was elegantly decorated and even had a grand piano (player included). The dining room had crystal chandeliers and was huge. They even had shops in the lower level and full internet access. The 8th floor room came with a queen sized bed which was just 2 mattresses put together (which seems to be the standard in Europe) but still very comfortable). The closet was huge and contained a safe.We had a large bathroom, with a full size tub , massage shower, double sink, toilet and bidet. We had a TV, desk, night stands, and a suit hanging rack. We heard that the Beatles stayed here during their visit to Barcelona. We would definitely stay here again. We had good room with an excellent view of the city.

Good, but ask for front facing room

from Doc_Jon
We agree with most of the reviews here. The service was excellent and the location was great for not only La Rambla but also for the Exiample district. We only stayed one night but our room, no. 452, was very dark. It was an internal room looking onto a small courtyard. We could barely see the sky. However, as we were only there one night, we did not worry about it. We would recommend asking for a front facing room if any available. The room was large enough with all the facilities you could need. Minibar was a bit expensive however. All in all, I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a bit of luxury. Be prepared to pay for it though.

Top Local Tips for Barcelona

Overload Be prepared to buy an extra suitcase whist there to bring home your purchases

getting around Use the Tourist bus for a couple of days to see all the main sites and get to see the cite.. good Value. Dont eat on the main streets . better va;ue and quality off the tourist areas

tourist bus make use of the hop on hop off bus as a lot of things in barcelona are just as well seen from the top of a bus. The whole circuit takes about three hours with about 20 stops - we only got off at the gaudi cathedral (not to be missed) and at the harbour (great shopping mall and good restaurants), the gothic quarter, and then finshed off at casa milia (another gaudi building) and this took us all day. We felt we had had a good overall view of the city. Also try to fit in a visit to cafe de l'opera on las ramblas - if you like hot chocolate try theirs - you need a spoon its so thick. Don't wast much time on las ramblas - you could be anywhere in the world.
