Good value and location

I chose this very modest hostel for its location and price and good review.
I got what I wanted - a safe and friendly no-frill place. For € 37 a night I got a plain 3rd (US: 4th)floor single with balcony, but with washbasin only. Shower/WC was down the corridor and it was not always tidy, but it worked. (They do have rooms with private facilities, but they were not available when I booked.)
Sheets and towels were changed in my room every 2nd day. The room had a double bed with a long double pillow, a small table, the H/C washbasin (no soap - bring your own!)and a wardrobe with a lot of hangers, but no shelves. Tiled floor. A small balcony to the street with two squeezed-in plastic chairs - however no noise problems. Wooden blinds. That was all - as basic as it could be.
Reception is on 2nd (US: 3rd)floor with a somewhat awkward elevator arrangement up some stairs. Street door always closed for unwanted intruders, and security seemed to be excellent. Very friendly and helpful staff who offer a safe deposit system if wanted. No lounge, but there is a small, but very drab room where you can have your morning coffee with a roll and marmalade for extra € 5, which is grossly overpriced considering all the great alternatives down the streets for around half the price - and more fun!
The location could not be better - a 5 minutes' walk from the airport bus, just off the Rambla on a busy walking street, and one minute away from the Cathedral or lovely Plaza del Pi.
A bit hard to find at first, my sympathy for the place grew as the week passed, and if you are a bit sporty and flexible you'll have a great time and an excellent match of price and value at the very reasonable REMBRANDT. I won't mind staying there again next time in Barcelona.

Rembrandt is a VERY cheap hotel/hostal in the center of Barcelona. EVERYTHING is in a walking distance - located directly on the walking street. You can have room with/without bathroom and with/without shower. I have only tried with shower and without toilet, which is recommendable since there are toilets right outside the room, and they are always vacant. I will definitely go there again!!!

Top Local Tips for Barcelona

Tapas Right off the Ramblas is the lovely Placa del Pi. Two excellent bars: busy Irati with basque tapas on slices of toast with toothpicks counted at the end - you'll hva to stand, and it's crammed, but quite an experience, and Bar del Pi, wiht outside seating in front of the church. In general, skip dinner and go from one tapas bar to the next... yummy (though not necessarily the cheapest way to fill your tummy).

Be alert on public transportation We had two pick pocket attempts directed at us on the metro, but had been warned to be alert and successfully avoided being robbed. Don't read, look at maps, etc. while on a crowded metro car. Be alert. On both occasions, there was more than one person involved in the attempt to rob us (2 the first time, 3 on the second).

T-10 Ticket Obtain T-10 ticket from machines at the Renfe train station at the airport. Great value for money and Barcelona's public transport is brilliant! Ticket includes use on train, metro and bus.
