Historical Traveller Reviews of H10 Universitat Hotel
Loved it!
from jenwaFirstly, it's in an excellent location for the aerobus and for placa catalunya-where you get the bus turistic- which is a must, as you see so much of Barcelona and it's onlt 18 euros each. We did the Red and Blue routes on the saturday.
On arrival we were given a glass of cava and the reception staff were very helpful. The room was fantastic, we did not find the room to be too small at all, as is posted in other reviews. The decor is very modern in the whole hotel, and the shower was huge!
The mini bar is big enough to fit your own small bottles of water in and we also bought a bottle of cava and that fitted in aswell! Which was great!
The bed was very comfortable and we did not find it to be too hard. I thought the buffet breakfast in the hotel was fantastic, there was so much choice! They definately cater for every taste, there was your usual fry up, cereals, meats, pastries, fresh fruit and even sushi! The restaurant was very nice inside also.
As this was our first time to this city and we didn't know anyone who had been there before we found the reception staff to be extremely helpful in recommending somewhere to eat and to make reservations for us. We ate at some amazing places, we came across this restaurant called 7 portes by accident and it served the best food we ate there! The veal cannalloni and paella were excellent! After we got home we looked it up and it turns out to be one of the best hotels in spain! Agua was also a very good restaurant.
The bar/restaurant CDLC was incredible-never been anywhere like it! We stopped there for some afternoon cocktails-have a mojito, they were delicious!- It's down near Hotel Arts, which is a nice area as it's so different from the city centre and it was really nice to be at the beach as the weather was scorching!
While we were in Barcelona, a grand derby match was on-unfortunately in Madrid though- and a taxi driver recommended the Michael Colllins Irish Bar to watch it, there was such a good atmosphere, even though Barcelona lost! The bar was beside the Sangrada Familia, so we got to see it at night - we'd already seen it during the day as we walked up it, which was terrifying but worth it!-
Overall, we both had such a fantastic time and as i've been to Florence, Rome and several other places, this city is by far the best i've ever been to. There's so much to do for every age group. Anyone our age will it, so many cool bars and clubs to go to. This was a great time of year to go and we are already planning when we can go back again, as there was so much stuff we still want to do-such as the helicopter ride over the city- We'll definately be going back to this hotel though, the staff were so friendly and the Hotel couldn't have been in a better location. We really didn't want to leave!
Also, if you're going on a wekkend break, don't do what we did and decide to have Sunday as a shopping day as everything is closed! We ended up going to the beach that day though, which turned out to be the best day we had.
Good Hotel, Location and Price
from A TripAdvisor MemberGood modern hotel in the center of Barcelona
from A TripAdvisor MemberRooms are very modern in style and the service is excellent. The whole hotel is very clean and very well run.
Unfortunately, as it is often the case in downtown hotels, there is no view and the rooms are very little and you have to store all your suitcases under the bed. I have a look at the map of my floor (2nd) and I see that all the rooms where of the same size except 2 with twin beds.
H10 is a very good hotel anyway but as a tourist, I'd prefer the H10 Raco del Pi which is within the "barrio gothico".
property.
from A TripAdvisor MemberBreakfast buffet, a little pricey, though. Nice bar.
Wonderful desk personnel.
Great City Break.
from bobs1712Staff were great, very friendly and helped with recommendations for restaurants which was good as we found there weren't a lot of places we fancied eating in within walking distance (certainly not on Ramblas). Having said that, you must go to the Marketplace on Ramblas for lunch! Fabntastic range of produce and there are several little areas where you can eat with the locals if you feel brave - just watch what they do! Really fresh calamaris, sardines etc. (& beer).
Overall, we found Ramblas incredubly busy and touristy and there are some quite ropey places just off the main drag - be conscious of keeping tight hold of your belongings. The marina is nice if you go to the old part (turn left at the bottom of Ramblas). Take the Bus Touristica as the attractions are quite spread out (they do 3 different tours and the 2 day pass is good value).
Finally, we had a really good time but in our opinion, if you are wavering over where to go for a city break we would recommend Rome or Paris over Barcelona as they just seem more compact and personable somehow.
fantastic location and hotel
from brisbane_familyof5Location is especially good as one of the airport buses stops at Placa Universitat , on the street the hotel is on, 2-3 minutes walk to the hotel. The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from Placa Catalunya and Las Ramblas, so easy to get there to get the bus back (we couldn't find a bus to the airport from Placa Universitat). Location is also good as is away from the hectic Las Ramblas, no problems with noise.
Stylish but very small rooms
from rkbHowever I booked the room through a website which said it would have a sitting area. We were put in this tiny room no sitting area, and just enough space to walk around the bed. When I showed the reservation to the management, they said they didn't have any bigger rooms, but they did - I could see from the evacuation plan. They blamed the website and didn't offer me any money off the bill.
Another problem was the bathroom was divided from the room only by a glass door, so there was no real privacy for the person using the bathroom.
Fantastic Hotel - Book It!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberIn fact don't even look at any other reviews - just book it. This hotel is in a great location (not even 5min. walk from La Ramlas) The hotel itself is a GEM. Great staff, great bar (cheaper than ANYWHERE on La Ramblas), great breakfast, great room (so clean and excellent beds and shower).
Honestly, i have stayed in many places around the world (New york/Vegas/LA etc), and believe me for the money you will not get better in barcelona. JUST BOOK IT.
Only thing we were dissapointed with regarding the trip was La Rambla - all the bars and food places around this area were very dirty, grubby, and expensive.
back to the hotel, honest you won't get a better hotel in as good a location, anywhere in barcelona - BOOK IT!!!
Great hotel, great location, great breakfast!!!!!!!
from A TripAdvisor MemberAbsolutely A Good choice!!
from mayneberlinTop Local Tips for Barcelona
Airport Bus If you're staying around Placa Catalunya or other stops of the Airport Bus, don't hesitate to take it. It was 3.50Euro pp each way, and the route was pretty much direct. You'd pay 35Euro each way for a taxi. Just go outside the airport and find the bus stops.
Transport The metro, buses, taxis are all really efficient and economical ways to get around this very enjoyable city.
bus Airport bus is very easy to use and drops you in central tourist district if you want to save a few euros on cost of taxi.
