Not worth staying at

In the first room (which was ok, but a bit shabby) we had two separate beds and complained. Got a new room with a double bed which was a bit better, but the walls were, like already mentioned, very thin, the food was not good at all (we had breakfast once), the drain on the balcony gave a terrible smell to the whole room even when the windows were closed and besides the hotel we heard the very "relaxing" sounds of massive road works which ended at 0.30h in the night and startet again in the morning at 6! Plus we woke up several times during the night because of the marble floors which reflected every single sound a hundred times worse than it was.

Not really worth staying at. Rooms and building so-so, pool ridiculous, food not good. The friendly service does not make up for this. No breakfast.

Very basic almost like budget accommodation. Chipped wardrobes, hole in wall and one on the bath, unbelievably paper thin walls and marble means noise throughout the corridors and other rooms travel down to yours. Woken up several times out of the 7 nights we stayed by other guests. No breakfast included and they wanted another €140 for the week if we wanted it! Do not recommend and we will not be staying there again.

We had three rooms at the Expo in August 2003 and for the rate we paid we were extremly happy at the standard of the hotel the rooms were large enough, they were clean and the air com was very welcome. The restaurant was good and the bars were very efficient. We stayed when there was nothing happening at the nearby convention centre so it was quiet and the rate was appox 50 euros a room, I know when they have a big convention the rates are much higher and you may not get the level of service that we enjoyed.

This hotel was very comfortable, had a good location and was an excellent value for money. We would have no reservations in recommending to anyone and indeed have done so.

Expo deserves a better review

Stayed 3 nights 31st January to 3rd Feb 2005. Was a bit worried having booked before reading some of the reviews in Trip Advisor. Worries proved unfounded - hotel was lovely and service was excellent. Reception staff were friendly and offered advice on trips and travel around the city.
The restaurant was not open for lunch or dinner but the buffet breakfast was good with a selection to please everyone. Bed linen was changed every morning while we were at breakfast. Rooms are not huge but were clean and comfortable with easily controlled heating.
Hotel is located about five minutes walk from 2 Metro stops and 2 minutes from main Railway Station. We booked through -------------- and thir rates including breakfast were very competitive. Barcelona is a lovely city for a 3-day break. Would go back to the Expo and Barcelona

Must agree with other writers this hotel is not worthy of being a four star hotel. It is in need of updating and redecorating in the bedrooms.Stayed for 4 nights at the Expo hotel the room was quite small . As the kitchens were being revamped we were not able to use the restaurant for anything other than breakfast, which was buffet style with plenty of choice . The best thing about the Expo is the location being so near to Sants station getting around Barcelona is a doddle. Use the metro to get about so cheap and you are not waiting around for many minutes. The best ticket to buy was the T 10 which cost 6euro 30 cents and gives you 10 trips on the metro , bus or the train in Barcelona .

We had three rooms in the Expo Hotel, in August, 2004. Location is great-close to the main railway station to Madrid and the Metro. Staff speak
English and are helpful.

Rooms, and beds are a little small for a four star hotel, but well maintained.

Restaurant is not cheap but food quality and quantity is good. Service is very good.

Swimming pool on roof is small but very welcome in a city where few hotels have pools.

We used Hotels for our booking and got tremendous value.

This is an alarmingly bad hotel in a great city, whatever you do avoid this place.No parking, no working aircon ,no restaurant, no room service,holes in the sheets, no english language tv,unfreindly staff.the list is endless.
To claim 4 star rating is ridiculous.

What a terrible hotel! First the hotel picture shown on most sites advertising the Expo is not the Expo.
The expo is an ugly building with a resident homeless man in the neighbouring door way! The hotel lobby light bulbs are all gone, the walls are paper thin, and the beds are tiny.
I took the extra pillow from the shelf to be covered in dust and the remains of someones sweets. The air con didn't work and when we asked to change rooms they said they were full. Staff don't smile but do speak English fairly well.

We didn't eat in the hotel but did have a drink in the bar, where there was serious banging going on in the floor above.
We heard every word from the people in the next room and the cleaners dragging the chairs across the floor at 9am.

The only plus was the major station, Sants on the door step, (if you can stand walking past the urine stench of the neighbouring door ways)
Final word do go to Barcelona its lovely!

Expo Hotel is definitely not a 4 Star hotel in my opinion. The hotel needs serious remodeling. The outside looks old and unclean. During my visit, the elevators were in construction and made the reception area look unsafe. The room we stayed in was narrow and the beds very uncomfortable.

Expo is in a good area to access public transportation however, but we wont be staying at Expo again in the future.

We went to Barcelona on a 7 day citytrip. The hotel was verry good with clean spacy rooms. For only 9 Euro extra you get a big delicious breakfast ( more than you can eat). The swimming room on the roof is rather small. The hotelstaff was verry friendly en helpfull.
The hotel is located in the businesarea. It's a safe location. There are two metrostations and a trainstation nearby. One of the metrolines gets you directly to the town centre. You can't get to the town centre on foot because it's to far away. The metro is verry cheap, safe en gets you from te center to the hotel in only 5 min. We'd stay there again.

I would highly recommend the Expo hotel in Barcelona. You get 4 star accomodation at a 2 star price. The rooms are bright, fairly spacious, spotlessly clean with a marble bathroom and even a walk-in wardrobe! Staff are friendly and very efficient. The buffet breakfast, hot and cold, was the most extensive I have ever seen. The candle- lit restaurant in the evening is very elegant and intimate and the 4 course, waiter served dinner with a good choice of dishes at a fixed price of 15 Euros was fantastic value. Although not directly in the city centre, the hotel is adjacent to the main Sants railway station from where cheap, fast metro sytem will take you into the centre in about 5 minutes. I would definitely stay in this hotel again.

4 Star?

What can I say?……………

Got to the hotel and was shocked at the appearance from the outside. It was supposedly described as a 4 star by hotels but in my opinion it was more like a 2 star.

However I thought the inside must be better. Wrong. The reception looked dated and in need of a refurbishment.

In the reception area there were numerous bulbs in the ceiling that were not working and 2 of the lifts were out of order for the whole 4 days that my girlfriend and I were there.

It got better when we carried our cases up to the room to find that the room we were given had people’s belongings already in the bathroom.

When we eventually got a room it was clean and tidy but not adequate for a 4 star hotel. If I pay for a 4 star hotel then Id expect 4 star qualities.

On a good note the location was excellent for getting round to the various sites.

This hotel is somewhat basic - but it seemed to me that the general standard of hotels in Barcelona was not that great. The rooms were fine - even by US standards. Also, each room has a balcony and we had spectacular views. There is also a great roof deck and pool - also with great views.

What is exceptional about this hotel is the price and location. The subway is right by the hotel and connects all over the city. If you buy the 10-ride subway pass, it costs about 60c per ride. The sights in Barcelona are quite spread-out, so you are probably going to wind-up taking the subway anyway.

Highly recommended.

Top Local Tips for Barcelona

Must see... Park Guell, the Sagrada Familia, Casa Batllo and la Pedrera are absolute must see's on this trip if you are anyway interested in culture. These are all works by the artist Gaudi who is a huge hero in Catalunya. The amount of detail that he put into these works is just amazing. Photos in guide books just don't do them justice...

Metro when you visit make sure you use the metro to get aroung. its easy and cheap to use and you can explore all the city using the metro. If you are staying more than 1 day buy the unlimeted tavel ticket.

The closer to La Rambla the more you'll end up paying. When looking for accomodation try the hotels located in the outskirts of the city. Prices are much reasonable in these areas compared to the city center. Remember the Barcelona has an excellent public transportation system so as long as you have a metro station close to your hotel you'll have access to every point of interest in Barcelona including La Rambla.
