Pleasantly surprised.

As the only hotel in Barcelona in our price range at short notice we had no choice but to book into Abrevadero. I then read through some reviews, most of which were terrible and was dreading what we'd find on arrival. The entrance hall with wires hanging from the ceiling and cracked tiles didn't help! But...our room was spacious - we had 6 single beds for 3 people - and immaculate, as was the ensuite bathroom. The sheets and towels were changed daily. And after talking to the polite man on reception the air con was turned on. We were thrilled! Not because the hotel was amazing, but because it wasn't terrible! For a 2* hotel this was more than adequate and very reasonably priced. Whilst not quite 5 minutes from La Rambla it was no more than a 15 min stroll and with the metro just 200m up the road you could get there much quicker. All in all we were pleasantly surprised.
Ants Heaven

I came on a school trip to stay in what I was told was a clean standard hotel. Yes it was standard but no it wasn't clean. I was disgusted to wake up to a family of ants crawling around my suitcase. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone unless you bring some ant killer first. Also the cracks in the walls and ceilings made me feel as though the hotel was going to collapse at any second.

I booked two nights in the Hostel El Abrevadero for the Grand Prix weekend for three people. After booking I read some terrible reviews and was very unsure if I wanted to stay there but because it was a busy weekend in Barcelona I had no choice. When I arrived at the Hostel I found the reception staff very friendly, english was good. Our room was clean, slept four people and the bathroom was also very clean. We were happy with the accommodation that we stayed an extra night. For cheap accommodation in the centre a city it is good value for money. The noise level is high but that would be expected in a city. There is a great pub nearby. We enjoyed our stay and were glad that we did not take any notice to the bad reviews.

A very Bad and Dirty place!
Small and dirty rooms. Cold in the night, no heating. The staff is not helpful at all.
A lot of noise outside in the street and inside the hostel: people shouting in the night.

It's a very bad place. The rooms are small, and very dirty. The bathrooms also dirty and there was no hot water. In the night, at 3, drunk people came up shouting. We paid 55 for a double room, too much for a so bad hostel!!! The day after we found a very nice 2** hotel near Sagrada Familia for less...
I don't recommend this hostel at all.

Freezing in November on the first night. No heating or double glazing. They told us the heating would be on all night the second night. They lied. We were both so ill from the two nights cold we had to move to another 2 star Hotel nearby (Paral-lel: a real hotel). What "complimentary toiletries"? Just loo paper and a fixed soap dispenser. The broken shower had to be held by hand. TV not working properly and TV remote broken.
And if you eat at the nearby Bar Cerveceria, don't be surprised when the price the waiter clearly quoted outside (where no prices appear) for 2 x paella have suddenly become the price for each person instead of for two.
