Nice but expensive design hotel

The rooms are wonderful if you like me like the modern look. Lots of cherry wood coloured panels, glass and crome. The bathroom is great, separate booth for the toilet and shower. The bathroom has a glass wall so you could take a wee looking out of the rooms panorama window. The power shower was nice, but the water got cold pretty fast, and some water leaked out on the bathroom floor. Nice touch with the blind to separate the bathroom from the room if you shared the room and needed privacy! Comfy beds, but I missed a chair to sit in and watch tv. I suppose it could have fitted the modern room design better with a flat screen tv, but the tv was ok. Nice robes and slippers was provided, useful if you wanted to use the pool areas at 23 and 3 floor. Free minibar which was restocked every day, 1 coke, 1 beer, 2 bottles of water and some really nice lemon soft drink.
I did'nt have breakfast, but I used the minibar to keep sanwiches and cakes.

The pool areas was ok with comfy sunbeds and free admission to wirlpool and sauna. The water was a bit cold though.

For families? No, too small rooms and too fancy. For couples? Definitely, the view from the rooms panorama windows was romantic. The Mediterranian ocean is beautiful. Make sure you get a room facing the ocean!

The price: Expensive. Worth it. Possibly.

This is a good hotel if you want to enjoy the ocean, not for exploring the ciy. The tube is about 100 meters away, and takes about 15 min to go to Plaza Cataluna.
Will I go back?

This is the BEST hotel we have ever stayed in, fantastic service staff were more than happy to help with anything! The bed was amazingly comfortable and black out blinds meant you could sleep in for hours! Short walk to the sea and a lovely (quite long) walk into town! Would recommend this hotel.... liked it so much that we are going back again this year (2007!)

We stayed here for 5 nights on floor 21, rooms 17 &18 (junior suite). Room 18 has a balcony but if you have young children, I would not recommend letting them outside on the balcony without an adult. There is a CD player in room 18. Room 17 has a bath with a shower. Room 18 has a shower with jets which, is really nice and relaxing to use but unfortunately, the water leaks out all over the bathroom floor and I don't mean drips, I mean a lot of water so you have to shower really quickly and then use 2 or 3 towels to soak up the water. We had a view of the sea from our rooms.

The drinks in the fridge in your room are free. Water, coke, lemonade and cheap beer.

On Friday night, my husband and I got woken by really loud music and some guy talking really loud on a microphone. This was around midnight. The music did not stop until 6am. The music was coming from one of the buildings across the road. To put it into perspective, my husband never has any trouble sleeping where ever he goes so for him to be kept awake, well you can imagine! I went to reception the next day and asked the lady behind the desk if the music we had heard on the Friday night was a one off or did it happens every weekend. She looked at me blankly and said that it had not happened before and must have been a special occasion. On Saturday night, the music started to build up from 11,30pm and again did not end until 6am but this time fireworks were also let off. My husband and I could not believe it. Wherever you stay in the hotel, you will not be able to avoid the loud music or the guy talking on the microphone. My husband went to complain the next day. The receptionist advised him that the hotel have complained to the Council regarding the noise but have been told that there is nothing they can do, There were a number of people complaining in the hotel regarding the noise experienced. I am not sure if it is a regular occurrence i.e. if it is a nightclub or it happens every few weeks. On the second night, we even wore ear plugs but could still hear it slightly. The loud bangs from the fireworks woke my son up and not even the ear plugs could shield us from that noise.
AC hotel and the Hilton hotel are close by. The AC hotel is even closer to where the music was coming from than Princess hotel!

The pool on the 23rd floor was from what I saw mostly for sunbathers and adults. The other pool on floor 3 was shallow and more suitable for children. The water in both pools was very cold, we did swim on one occasion but in my opinion, the hotel should have the water heated in the pools.
We went to take my son into the Jacuzzi as the pool water was too cold. The Jacuzzi was absolutely discussing. It was a slimy dirty yellow colour. If the jets were on, you would probably not see this and get into the Jacuzzi, god knows what germs and bacteria you pick up!

The gym is located on the 3rd floor in a room just off the pool, it was small but adequate.

We put a do not disturb sign on our door but the maid still went in and did our room when we were out. On 2 separate occasions, she forgot to put duvet covers on our duvets. The beds are quite comfortable and are on wheels. You can put the brakes on the bed to stop them moving, something we did not discover until our third night.

There is a tourist bus which takes you all around Barcelona. This costs around 19 Euros for 1 day or 23 Euros for 2 days. You are provided with earphones and can listen in various languages to interesting facts regarding sites around Barcelona. You can get on and off the tourist bus as many times as you want. You are provided with city maps and a discount booklet. Children under 4 go free on the tourist bus. Be sure to ask what time they stop running. I think it's around 8/9pm.
The metro and tram are also very easy to use.

The shopping mall is right beside the hotel. There are various stores and a big supermarket. If you take any shopping into the supermarket, be aware that you have to place it in a plastic bag and seal it prior to entering the supermarket. There is a table with the plastic bags and a machine to seal it in the supermarket.
There are a number of nice places to eat in the mall.

The sea is about a 10/15 minute walk away from the hotel. There are no sun loungers on the beach or umbrellas. You can purchase straw mats (2.50 Euros) and umbrellas (4.99 Euros) from the supermarket in the mall. The beach has soft sand and showers to wash off sand when you are finished.

In terms of taking food back to the hotel room, we never had any problems with this, we kept ham, butter, yogurts and beer in the fridge and crisps + water on the side.

Personally I will not stay at this Hotel again.

This hotel is ideal for a summer holiday being near the Beach (which is fantastic; walk/cycle all the way to the Port area) and with good links back to the City. Not a City centre location but quiet and away from the tourist trail with excellent Metro /tram /bus routes back to Centre.
Small but well designed rooms; see through bathrooms wall; electric blinds with complete blackout and cooling splash pool at 23rd floor;incredible views of the city.
Thought minimalist food was good but expensive however but this is normally a business hotel.
Next to massive new shopping complex with supermarket- Cava 5Euros and good food Court. Try Sagardi the Basque bar.
Paid £50 a double room in August last year what more do you want from a 4 star hotel with free bar in Barcelona???

This hotel is very modern with spacious bedrooms, although a little too office-like for my taste. Was disappointed there were no tea/coffee-making facilities, no trouser press, no bath and the free mini bar is nothing to get excited about. Just one solitary beer amongst a 'selection of soft drinks' and no peanuts or chocolate either! The reception area is a little basic with very uncomfortable chairs. Staff were extremely polite but not very efficient. It's a shame the hotel wasn't in a more central location, it's quite a distance from bars and restaurants and taxis are a nightmare. The views from our window however, were nothing short of absolutely stunning!!

The Hotel was well worth it's 4 star rating - very trendy decor, fixtures and fittings. The Hotel was a little further away from Las Ramblas than we were led to believe - definitely not within walking distance, however there was a tube station nearby, which offered an excellent service. Would definitely recommend Hotel to other travellers.

We have just returned from 3 night stay in Barcelona where we stayed in the Barcelona Princess hotel on 1 Avenue Diagonal. I really liked this hotel, it has a real modern feel to it, and although it is on the suberbs, it only takes 5 minutes on the metro to get to town so this was no problem to go in and out of town twice a day; once for sightseeing and once for dinner. The tram also takes you directly from the hotel to the marina which is nice for a wonder or dinner. The bedroom was modern and clean, the shower was fantastic, one of those hydrojet ones where it as many settings and comes fromm all directions for a lovely massage; Spent hours in it! I would recomend popping into the Gaudi room on floor 1A where you will find the famous lip shape sofas to photograph. I asked for a room near the top and we were given a room on the 26th floor which is the top and the views were breathtaking! There were no hidden extra charges to us either, so the mini bar really is free.

Great Views Over the City!!

from touchango
I stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend over New Year (which coincided with my 40th!). I surfed the web for quite a while before booking and booked this as it seemed to be a great standard hotel for a very reasonable price. I noted that the best views were undoubtably going to be from the high floors so asked for a room on a high floor when I booked over the net.

When we got there we drove round the block twice as we couldn't see anywhere to park before it became evident that everyone just dumped their car in the road outside and gave the keys to the check-in desk for valet parking. Parking fee was extra but not too expensive.

On check-in we were asked if we wanted a sea or city view and opted for the city view. We were given a room on the 25th floor with spectacular views over Barcelona at night. The room itself was great and very clean, and the free mini-bar was restocked daily. Loved the bathroom and the electric blinds!

We didn't have breakfast at the hotel as it was quite expensive but there were very inexpensive places to have a coffee and a pastry in the shopping centre next door. We did eat in the hotel restaurant one night (New Year's Eve) but they ran out of food (it was buffet style) so it wasn't spectacular and I wouldn't recommend the restaurant. We did complain about the meal the following day (we couldn't complain on the night as too many people were complaining already!) and spoke to the hotel manager who gave me his card and asked me to email him when I got back (but I never got round to it).

There was internet access in the lobby which was great for keeping up with emails. We didn't use the pools as it was January but although small they looked quite nice, especially the infinity pool on the 23rd floor!

The hotel isn't in the greatest area but they seem to be doing a lot of building work in the area so maybe it will be nicer soon, but it's very near the metro which is very convenient for seeing the centry of Barcelona.

I would definitely recommend the hotel and would stay there again.

We have just returned from a 4 day break in Barcelona. it was our first visit and it certainly won't be the last. We had a view of the city to die for. The level of the rooms are fantastic, everything you could wish for, including a complimentary bar which was stocked each day. The room service was second to none. All staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful.

All the facilities of the hotel were excellent, the swimming pools were clean, saunas, jacuzzi were just amazing. The bar prices were just like any other bar in the city.

We visited a few of the most amazing buildings, Sagrada Familia, Nou Camp and the Olympic Stadium were just brilliant.

Eating out was a joy, plenty of bars restaurants around the hotel andthen 5 minutes away your into Port Olympic were the nite life and restaurants were fantastic.

If you are planning on a long weekend break then this is a must.....excellent

We two sisters and mothers of young children booked this hotel because it had two pools, was near to public transport (Maresme/El Forum on the yellow line towards La Pau - strangely the tramvia was not working along the Avignuda Diagonal while we were there and no-one could tell us why) and was remarkably cheap for a 4* hotel.

We were all delighted - by the free minibar, the artemide tolomeo lamps, the blinds, the glassy bathroom, the lovely chambermaids and hall porters, the dinky but very pleasant pools and terraces. It is an amazing package. When I booked, I did wonder about some of the earlier complaints - Fawlty Towers, etc, but frankly, unless you are a top-exec type, who can't bear to wait around in reception for 20 minutes or so while they work out their computers, you will have no complaints.

We didn't try the breakfast or restaurant/room service here because of the price, and because Barcelona is full of characterful places to eat. The Gym Bar was good for lunchtime sandwiches and drinks and all the staff were polite and helpful. It was quite funny to see a notice by the lift which threatened supplementary charges for people who brought in food from outside, but the huge Diagonal Mar mall next door, full of fast-food restaurants was a bit of a mixed blessing for the proprietors of this hotel as I saw people bringing in their Burger Kings in a brown paper bag. Probably not the image the management was looking for when it invested in the Moroso and B&B Italia lobby furniture.

The Canary Wharf type regeneration that is going on locally makes the spot quite soulless but calm in comparison with the hullaballoo of the historical centre - it was relaxing to come back late at night to a spacious and dust-free environment.

Public transport is extremely cheap - 6.9 euros for ten trips on bus/metro, which can be used by the whole party. Taxis are also good value - about 28 euros to the airport and around 8 euros to the centre of town.

We really enjoyed the hotel and the holiday as a whole. The only bad shock was a 63 euro phone call to China, but that's not compulsory.

Fantastic Stay

This hotel has to be the best one I have stayed in. I stayed for 4 nights wuth my girlfriend a few days ago. It is in a wonderful city and the views from where our room was (the 22nd floor) were outstanding. The hotel was in a very quiet and peaceful location and no traffic noise was heard at night (the air conditioning was inaudible!) I have to say this is the only place I've been to where I've missed the hotel bed more than I've missed my own! Although it is out of town it only takes about 25 minutes to get into town on the metro anyway and it still costs the same amount as if the hotel was a stop away from town. The room was lovely and the blinds could have made anyone oversleep! The pool and gym were peaceful places to be and the cleaners did an amazing job, we had to wait 20 minutes to get into our room. The diagonal mar shopping centre had a supermarket which was extremely cheap (16 cents for a bottle of water!) and a lovely italian pizzeria on the top floor. I would advise people staying at this hotel to go on the day trip to Monserrat, as this was the highlight of our holiday. A wonderful holiday for wonderful prices, and a hotel which I would return to without any doubt.

Excellent Hotel with an Excellent Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just returned from a 2 night break in Barcelona staying at the Hotel Barcelona Princess. This hotel was very clean, comfortable and modern with excellent facilities and the staff were all very helpful. On arrival at the hotel we were met by a porter who later brought our luggage to the room and answered any questions about the hotel. In our room there was plenty of information about the hotel and city attractions. We were staying on the ninth floor and had a fantastic view of the sea. The minibar was complementary and was re-stocked upon request and room service was also available 24 hours. On our first night our shower leaked over the bathroom floor but within 20 minutes a maintenance person came to the room and resolved the problem.

I had been worried when booking the hotel that we would be too far from any of the main attractions but we were just minutes from the beach (making the temperature more bearable) and there was a huge shopping centre right next to the hotel with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. The hotel was also located right next to metro station which is a very easy and cheap way of getting around the city (the metro trains are also air conditioned).

To sum up I thought the hotel was fantastic but 2 nights is not long enough in this amazing city. I will certainly be going back and will definitely stay at the Hotel Barcelona Princess again.

Very modern hotel

from MichaelMancini
We've been in Barcelona in April for 3 nights. The Barcelona Princess is very modern, with 30 fleet of spectacular sights over the city and the sea. It's not so near the city center, you have to take the subway. Anyway, the area it elegant and recently built.
I recommend this hotel, the price is very low for that quality, expecially if you get an offer from the Web.
We've been also upgraded to a junior suite. Rooms are very particular in modern style.

Loved It!

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is a fabulous 4 star hotel. I was a little worried about it being too far from the buzz of Barcelona but this is a great hotel in a great location.

Don't waste money on taxi's from the airport - follow Expedia's advice and get the airport train to Sant Adria de Besos Station and then get the tram to the Forum [about 3 or 4 stops] and the hotel is just across the road.

We didn't try the food at the hotel so cannot comment but the Diagonal Mar shopping centre which is directly next door has everything from Starbucks to Pizza plus it also has a supermarket which sells EVERYTHING!

The hotel rooms are fantastic - great air conditioning [very quiet], blackout blinds [fantastic], great views and spotlessly clean.

Buy a 10 trip ticket which can be used on the underground and trams - this was a great deal and saves times as well as money.

We didn't realise that the beach was only about 10 minutes from the hotel and you can walk [which we did most mornings] along the coast line to the centre of Barcelona [takes about an hour but worth it].

I would definately recommend this fantastic hotel.

Great Hotel for a Great City

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was a little unsure about the location of this hotel as I couldn't find it on any map when I booked. Yes the Princess is quite a way from the hussle & bussle of Barcelona but it' well woth the travel for this great hotel. From the moment you enter the lobby you know you are in a class hotel but the Rooms are in a higher class.
Great views (stay on a high floor if possible) well presented & stocked rooms. Not too sure about the swimming pool on the 23rd floor. Good idea but not for me., knowing my luck i would fall out!!

The only thing I didn't like was the restaraunt. On the night we arrived we booked a table. The food was only a buffet of tapas, good food but very expncive for what you get. Much easier to get the tram to the Olympic Port where there are some great places to eat.
This is without doubt one of the best hotels I have stayed in for many years.

from A TripAdvisor Member
this hotel was fantastic very modern fantastic views, a little far out if its your first time, taxi ride to the centre only 7 euros great staff free internet access in the lobby FREE mini bar, the resturant is a little expensive but next door i mean only about 50 yards is a shopping centre with loads of resturants all the well known ones, had a fantastic time there sure you wil too.

View to die for

from LindseyCulley
My husband and I stayed for 4 nights. I booked through 2 different companies 2 nights with each which worked out cheaper and didn't have to change rooms half way through which was good. B/fast was included for the first 2 but was pricey to pay for the second 2 at 16 Euros each, so didn't bother.

Modern rooms with the most spectacular view of Barcelona, we stayed on 23rd floor and I would recommend to anyone to stay above say floor 15 to appreciate the view available. Shower in the room was fantastic after a long day sightseeing.

We were quoted 45 Euros fr a taxi from the airport so caught airport bus to Catalunya Square - Euro 3.20 and then Metro to hotel (10 underground trips for Euro 6.30). Need to use the Metro to get into town but they are every 5mins or so, cheap and it only takes about 15mins.

Worth the journey out of town to stay in a quality hotel like this, rather than a same priced lower standard hotel in the centre.
