We went to Barcelona for our honeymoon in 2004. The city was wonderful and we had a great time. Apart from that the hotel was better than we could have imagined. The first night that we were there, we had a smaller room with a view of the city. Since we were on our honeymoon, we asked for and received an upgrade to a king bed and larger room facing the waterfront. It was a lovely room with a very modern decor. The bed was soft and comfortable. There was ample space for all of our luggage and a safe for our valuables. The bathroom had black granite and glass. It was a very chic feel.
We needed a lot of help with deciding which sites to see. The concierge and front desk were so helpful and polite. They told us exactly where to go in order to make the most of our 5 days. There is a bus-stop right in front of the hotel for local and tourist transit. Not to mention that the beach was right across the street.
We ate breakfast every morning at the hotel. The continental buffet was very good. The hotel had a fitness room, a restaurant, a bar, and 2 computers for the guests. There was also an amazing Chinese restaurant right next to the hotel.
This hotel was great for what we wanted: a nice quiet spot away from the bustle of the city. For business, it might not be so great since it is a little farther from downtown. However, for leisure, this is a perfectly located, quiet, and clean hotel that I would give 5-stars for quality and price. If we ever go to Barcelona again, I would love to stay in this hotel.

Luxurious But Too Far From City And Beach

The hotel itself was very nice with clean and well equipped rooms. However, the location was not as close to the beach as one might think (you have to cross a motorway). Additionally, it is quite far from the centre of the city. The neighborhood is very quiet with not much to see around it.
Seems to be a good business hotel as most guests seem to be there on business.

The Barcelo Hotel is a modest distance from the city center of Barcelona and has wonderful views of the beach. You can leisurely walk to wonderful shops, coffee bars, and historic sites from the hotel. Also, public buses stop in front of the hotel and the subway is just a short and pleasant walk.

The hotel is very clean and efficiently operated. Our room was nicely furnished with contemporary furniture. It was always a pleasure to come back to the Barcelo after a day of hectic sightseeing. If you are looking for a quality stay for a reasonable price, choose the Barcelo when visiting Barcelona.

Top Local Tips for Barcelona

use the subway! The subway is cheap, clean, fast and (we found) safe - make the most of it!

and...... Eat as much as you want at breakfast buffet and you won't need to eat until the late evening! Get bottled water outside the hotel as with all hotels the mini bar prices are a bit steep Bus Turistic good way of getting around the city for beginners

Breakfast at Atenea Mar Tip When you stay at the Atenea Mar, get up early to get breakfast. There won't be hurds of people waiting to get their food and get a table, and you can have a nice quiet breakfast.
