March Visit may sound crazy I love visiting in March after the Iditarod. The prices are cheaper and the days are plenty long. You can have clear blue skies and potential for seeing the aurora or a nice little snow storm. It's not as cold as most people think of when they think of Alaska. It can be quite nice (20 for a low and in the 30's or even warmer for a high temperature). The dall sheep have had their young and come down much closer to the road to avoid the snow. Seeing them up close is a real treat, as opposed to the ususal summertime viewing of the "white dot" on the mountain side. And, ususally the bears are still in hibernation, so there are no worries there.
