Top Local Tips for Barcelona

Ordering a taxi Never try to book a taxi on phone. Twice we booked, it did not turn up. On the last day we were nervous as we had to leave for the airport at 4 am and if the taxi did not turn up I was going to be in trouble - as I had two young children - one an infant! At 4 am the taxi we booked did not turn up. But from my room (on 6th floor) I saw several taxis going around the intersection which was just below. I went down and I could, flag down a empty taxi in the first minute! There were at least a dozen taxis - all vacant that crossed that place in the next 10 minutes when I was loading my luggage. Such was the presence of taxis on the streets in the middle of the night that it made me feel stupid booking a taxi in advance - as we are used to in India.

Look out for the Trixis!!! Better than any taxi OR tourbus, if you're only heading a short way through town look out for the Trixis (Taxi tricycles). Like plastic rickshaws for two passengers, the drivers (cyclists) are usually really friendly and will chat about info you didn't know about the area.
