Hotel is very comfortable and very clean. The staff were all very friendly and most helpful. The rooms are very spacious. It was a 10 min walk from the metro stop which we didn't mind but some might. I would stay here again and would certainly recommend it to others.

When visiting barcelona on a hen party, we experienced we all had the best time. Staff were very friendly and couldn't help enough. I am now trying to book again for my parents in law for their 60th birthdays - try the sangria!!!

Good rooms, great breakfast, excellent staff & service. Within walking distance of Catalunya Square & Ramblas. Would definately stay there again.

Good Hotel for the price

We stayed in the Viladomat Hotel 1/7-1/10. The rooms were small, but clean and nice. The bathrooms were clean. The bed was firm and comfortable. Noise level was ok, considering that the hotel is located on a busy street. The hotel restaurant is expensive and the food is awful, so I suggest that you go out to eat. There is a good breakfast cafe 2 blocks up on the right off of Vildomat. I would recommend Barri Gottic area or Gracia for lunch/dinner as there is not much near the hotel. The location is pretty good as it's only 4 blocks away from the Hospital Clinic Metro stop, but it is away from any other tourist destination and is located more in a business district. Taxi cost only 15 Euros from the airport, but they were on strike when we left, so we took the metro to the airport train at Catalunya station...no problem and an easy way to go. La Rambla is rated as the 9th most crime ridden street in the world, so be alert for pickpockets. We didn't have a problem, but witnessed another tourist who got her purse stolen right off her arm. I would recommend the hotel because of the relatively low price, but if I was to stay in Barcelona again, I would probably stay closer to the water...perhaps over by the Olympic Village.

This is a clean, modern hotel at Viladomat and Valencia in the western part of the Eixample, which is the modern section of Barcelona. I got a good deal on it through Expedia. The room was a good size, neither fancy nor drab, and the staff were all pleasant with one odd exception. There's also a good restaurant.

The main difficulty is the location. It is walking distance from most of the sights that you'll see as a tourist, and also from the main Sants train station. But it's a long walk, like eight large blocks, and I got tired of the walk as my trip went along. It's also equidistant (like four or five blocks) from four different subway stations, meaning that it was no more or less convenient to walk to most places than it was to take the subway.

For what it's worth, there's a good bakery and cafe called La Boulangerie four blocks to the east at Valencia 178 or thereabouts.

Excellent AB Viladomat

Having just spent four nights at the hotel AB Viladomat I can highly recomend it as a clean good value and very pleasant place to spend a few days.The staff were all very friendly and helpful, I would have great difficulty in faulting the hotel at all, it is a little way away from the city centre but the public transport is so simple to use that it is not a problem. The main tourist spots are within a twenty minute walk.
I would certainly use the AB Viladomat if I were to travel to Barcelona again.

Good quality modern hotel

I chose this hotel for 3 nights midweek in November 2004. We booked easily via the hotel website and had a comfortable stay. The hotel is close to the Aerobus stop to go to the airport, and is near the Sants railway station. The location is a few blocks (10-15 minutes) from several metro stations from which we walked at night without any problems. We ate twice at the breakfast buffet which had enough variety to keep us satiated.
This is a modern business hotel and the English speaking staff were friendly and efficient. I would stay here again, although I did think a couple times that it might have been better to stay a little nearer to Plaza Espana.

Great hotel

My wife and I stayed here in early November 2004 for 7 nights. We asked for and got an interior room for quiteness. The hotel is almost new and we had a great room. We are both Spanish speakers and found the staff to be competent , courteous, and helpful but not overly friendly. I requested a telephone directory at the desk and was told that they didn't have one. The buffet breakfast was a bit pricey at 12 euros. We sometimes had cafe con leche and a sweet roll for 2.50 at the hotel. All around the hotel there are places for breakfast and mid-day meals. Eat your big meal out from 1-4 p.m. and have the menu del dia for 7 euros. Two big dishes, dessert, and a bottle of wine. Snack at night from the market across the street.
The Metro stations are close as are two Internet cafes. This is a great location at a great price.
I highly recommend the hotel.

Good, but out of the way

Generally a good hotel, clean and spacious. The staff was friendly and the buffet breakfast was reasonable. The hotel is quite out of the way of the major attractions of Barcelona. We would not stay there next time for this reason. We would rather pay slightly more and be within comfortable walking distance.

5 friends and myself stayed in the Viladomat in late September. It was just right on every count. The rooms were a decent size, the mini-bar was reasonable, the cleanliness was excellent, the breakfast was great especially setting out on a long day exploring this great city. The staff were the best - obliging and helpful. Even though the hotel is a short walk from the Metro there is a bus stop just outside the door and the Metro tickets work on the buses too. A wonderful hotel for a great price. Thank you.

Clean and Comfortable

We chose this hotel based on the reviews of this website. Being in Barcelona as a tourist and for a conference at the Palace de Congresos near the University, it was a compromise in location, located in between the city centre and the conference facility. The hotel is very clean and modern. The lobby is sometimes smoky. Did not get the breakfast. There are many local coffee bars nearby. It IS a bit far from the three closest metro stations, at least a 10-15 min walk, which is essential to use to get around Barcelona - the tourist sites are all very spread apart the expansive city. The room itself was roomy, clean with fresh modern decor. Air conditioning was fantastic, very quiet! The bathroom was very clean, marble finish. Shower was heavenly. No complaints of the service. Front desk willing to call taxis and notify you of its arrival by calling your room. Compared to others' experience of the small or disappointing accommodation that can be encountered in this city, we were very pleased and satisfied at this hotel.

Hotel AB Viladomat an excellent choice

Last week we stayed at Hotel AB Viladomat and has been excellent experience in all sense.
The receptionist staff have been very helpful , the restaurant is great , they have a daily menu just for 12€ !!!
We came with some friends and we strongly enjoy our stay in Barcelona.
Is very good located and the Aero Bus stop just in front of the Hotel
Las Ramblas is just a nice 20 minutes walk all long the Gran Via.
Concerning the prices we had the best rates on their web page (www.hotelabviladomat.com ) or contacting directly the Hotel.

Just come back from staying 3 nights at the Ab Viladomat Hotel. We had a wonderful time. Considering the cheap price we paid through Expedia, we certainly got our money's worth. Before going, i rung the hotel to see if we could get a room up grade. We were given this without any further cost. The room was lovely. Very big and had everything you needed (the only thing missing was tea/coffee making facilities). The bed was big and very comforatable and good storage space. The staff were consistantly very helpful when we asked for information and advice on the sights of Barcelona (as it was our first visit).
The only draw back of the hotel was its location. It was quite far away from the centre and we had to take the metro to get everywhere.
Though this, had a wonderful stay and would really recommend this hotel for anyone who wants accomodation out of the city centre, good value for money and friendly service.

Top Local Tips for Barcelona

Park Guell I think it is a must for people visiting Barcelona! If you go by metro, just be prepared for a long walk!

Sightseeing Don't bother with the Turistic Bus. It was a pain having to queue all the time and took forever to get around. Use the metro, cheaper and more convenient.

Barcelona Card Buy a Barcelona card, travel on all trams, metro and buses and even trains within central area at any time of the day. Present the card at museums, restaurants etc and you could get a discount too. If it's summer when you got to Barcelona, get up early to your chosen tourist site. It gets very busy from about 10am onwards. Go see a site and then have breakfast, that way lunch isn't too far away. :-)
