Top Local Tips for Alarcon

Don't take the 7:10 am train to Madrid from Cuenca We spent the night at the Castle in Alarcon, drove back to the train station in Cuenca and returned the rental car. Took a taxi to the hotel in Cuenca, one of the hotels that is actually a hanging house. Had a great time in Cuenca and then got ready to take the train the next day back to Madrid. We had booked a round trip ticket on the Renfe train from Madrid to Cuenca and the first train back to Madrid leaves Cuenca at 7:10 am. Well, taxis in Spain don't start until 7:30 am at the earliest. We could not find any taxi service that would take us back to the train station from our hotel on top of the cliffs. We offered to pay double, we asked if the owner of the hotel could hook us up with someone that we could pay privately. Nothing. So, the only option we had was to walk down the cliffs to the town and to the train station. 30 minute walk with bags in tow!!!! We made it but really wanted to share this with others so they won't make the same mistake.
