We chose Mons hotel because we found a great deal for it and thought since it was a bit out of town, it would be better and they had a free shuttle into town. When we arrived in the town centre from the airport, the tourist info centre called the hotel for us but we would have had to wait for a couple of hours before they picked us up so she ordered us a taxi. It didn't take too long to get there and the receptionist apologised for not picking us up. Very nice we thought, and the wonderful service continued. We had so many issues, like forgetting the safe number and not being able to use the key cards, etc and they were fabulous to us. There is a free shuttle bus into town all day, at either 1 or 2 hour intervals, till 10 at night so unless you party unto the wee hours then its fine, although we got to know the staff and managed to get a bus when we wanted which was great!
The restaurant is ok, we got a bit confused about what things were because we didn't speak Slovenian but everyone pretty much speaks English so they will help. We got a main meal and glass of wine for (we think) about 7 euros. Did feel a little like a service station or Ikea restaurant because it was near a main road but you can get over that by going to the a la carte restaurant next door.
Room was fine, good having your own safe (unless you forget number and phone keeps going all night!), nice view of woods.
The lobby and hotel is amazing, very modern - think glass, lights and bright primary colours, it looks even better at night time. The bar is nice too, especially if you get free drinks from the barmen like we did!
Most of the guests were attending conferences there as its the Congress centre so there is a lot of activinty during the day but pretty chilled otherwise.
The reception staff are very obliging. We wanted to know about bus and train timetables for places away from town and they happily printed them off for us, and would help with anything else.
Not that much to do in the hotel itself, a small gym and sauna, pool table and nearby walks but its so easy to get into town.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the staff really gave a warm welcome, and I intend to return. Just a word of advice - don't try to walk back from the zoo!

Top Local Tips for Ljubljana

Stay at a private apartment instead of a hotel There are plenty of private apartments being let out by local Slovenians for tourists. If you are staying a week or more it is definitely worth going online to find a privtae apartment. Slovenians are not as jaded as the locals in other more developed western european countries like Italy or even Croatia so it's a lot less likely you'll be ripped off by them.

Best bar The Macek on the riverside is probably the most popular bar in town, and with good reason. Good service and great atmosphere, also fantastic for people-watching!
