Bolshoi tickets Its easy to book Bolshoi tickets online, although note that the Main Stage is closed until 2008. The New Stage, though, is almost as beautiful and most cities would be happy to have it as their best opera and ballet house. If the production is sold out online, there are numerous touts outside who will sell them to you but be careful - tickets do not show the original price and all the detail is in Russian so you cannot tell which area you are in. Its so cheap you'd be crazy to miss out on a trip. Jeans are totally acceptable based on the performance we saw, although we were smarter.

Taxis in Moscow - What to pay? In Moscow you will find old Russian made cars that will stop with the wave of your hand. Occasionally a Range Rover or a Porsche Cayenne will stop as well but these would be the drivers of wealthy people who are not in town and the driver would give you a ride for a few hundred rubles. The going rate as of April 2008 is around 300-400 Roubles. They would ask for 500 or more but just insist 300 (in Russian: trista) and that should be enough anywhere in Central Moscow. Of course it would take more to the airport, around 1000 or so.

use the metro Apart from August, Moscow traffic risks unpredictable gridlock pretty much anytime,and booking a taxi (forget hailing one on the street!) takes half an hour. Use the Metro - it's efficient, the trains are very frequent, the stations are everywhere, it's clean and safe, and although everything's in Russian, a good map and some common sense will keep you on track. What's more, many of the stations themselves are architectural masterpieces. Buy a 5 or 10 use touch card at the kiosk at the entrance.
