Top Local Tips for Moscow

Airport to hotel transfers My client was kind enough to book a car for me. However, even their professional drivers were not comfortable speaking in English. (This is NOT a complaint - after all it's their country - but something for travelers to be aware of.) May be a good idea to have the hotel book a car for you to meet you at the airport. Alternative would be to have a Russian translation of the hotel name and address on paper to give to a driver. Also be aware that there are TWO international airports serving Moscow - specify to the booking agent which one you are using. There is a train into central Moscow from Domodedovo airport, but not from Sheremetyevo. Driving from Sheremetyevo will take at least 45 minutes into central Moscow. Domodedovo is reported to be at least an hour and 15 minutes driving time.

Some experience with the restaurants The Moscow restaurants are to divide in two groups: bad and very expensive. We have started our experience with one bad visit: Il Patio ( Italian cuisine chain, terrible) and then have made some really positive visits. The best of all, Japanese restaurant Misato in the Golden Ring Hotel. We have travelled a lot, and know japanese restaurants all over the world. That one was definitely one of the best, but don't ask me about the bill, the sum was astronomic. Good choice is a fish restaurant chain Filimonova and Yankel( I believe, there are 4 restaurants in Moscow, one of them on Tverskaya Str.) Everything is fresh, the staff competent and the bill moderate. Pushkin is a legend in Moscow, the russian cuisine is authentic, perfect service, expensive.
