Top Local Tips for Sovata

First Class - Not! If you have the opportunity to travel by rail within the Transylvanian region of Romania, don't bother paying any extra for "first class" on the trains - we couldn't see any difference and in fact the "second class" carriages even had a few windows which were capable of openning and closing - and an over abundance of heating, conveniently placed directly under the seats. Make sure you have a travel partner willing to swap seats when the heat becomes too much! Having said that, Romania is a beautiful and fascinating country, remarkably free of tourists and full of history. See it now before commericialism takes over.

donkey trek in Apuseni Mountains, Transylvania Carry your own water when travelling through the rural areas: buy mineral water. Take a GPS or compass if trekking with maps and not with a guide. It's easy to get lost in the forests. Otherwise it's all safe and very beautiful.
