Top Local Tips for Bucharest

Not a pretty city. Bucharest has a long way to go to become a top tourist attraction, but it is trying hard and is well worth a visit. The Parliament Palace and unification boulevard have to be seen, and there are some attractive parks and gardens which take you away from the the heat, dust and traffic. The museum of peasant life is also well worth a visit, and there are little gems of buildings and churches if you have the patience to look around and battle with the roadworks, constructioin sites and absence of useful signs.

Gusti City Tour, Bucharest, Romania This is a great way to see Bucharest sights for a reasonable price. For 50 lei the tour bus picked me up across from the Ramada Majestic, and they have different pick up points in the city. You can see the sights of interest at your own pace. The bus goes from one sight to another on schedule following the same route around the city. Some of the main tourist drop off points, but not all are Parliament Palace, Unirii Square, Romana Square, The Triumphal Arch, Victoriei Square, National History Museum. Great way to explore at your own choice all day long. If your hotel does not have the Gusi City tour brochure ask about it!

Taxi's Don't be tempted to take one of the taxi's from the drivers who hang around INSIDE the airport, we were totally ripped off. Better to go to the rank outside the terminal as these are licenced taxi's . It turned out ours was a fake, they look real though!!
