Beware taxi touts and shortchanging Be prepared on arrival at Otopeni airport to be hassled by taxi touts. In the arrival hall I was approached by around 6 touts in around 3 minutes. My tip jump on the bus into town it was less than a pound and because of the roadworks and heavy traffic a taxi isn`t much quicker. Also count your change carefully. On at least 2 occasions I had money withheld but when challenged ithe remainder of my change was quickly handed over

Taxis Watch out for Gypsies and beggars at all train Stations and watch your wallet and Mobile. Never take first Taxi offered - it will be the most expensive and a scam. Walk outside of train stations and Airports and ask for prices - at least three - that way you don't end up paying double! At hotel ask concierge for City Taxi and not Hotel Taxi or you will pay double. Genuine City Taxis are extremely reasonable by UK standards (I mean the cost) but ask three different drivers and get three different prices rangeing from correct price to four times correct price. 10 minute journey should be no more than 10 Ron (£2). Price per Kilometre should be painted on drivers door so know your distances!! Rush hour traffic in City is incredible. Get price for trip across town FIRST and make sure you are not being charged by the hour. If the Taxi driver acts stupid - find another. Best - take the Metro (underground). Again watch your wallet but it's quicker. A single ticket valid for 10 trips is 10 Ron.

Local municipal transportation cheap and safe After arriving into Bucharest's Otopeni Airport and have gotten your luggage and cleared customs, avoid the throng of people wanting to get you a taxi and walk down the stairs to the bus stop for bus # 783 which rides right into the centre of the city for next to nothing, around $2.00 EUR one way per person which is a fraction of what you could pay taking one of the unofficial or "gypsy" cabs.
