we have just arrived bak from vila gale marina? fantastic hotel loved everything about it. good food clean rooms, great staff.only 1 thing if the hotel is full b prepared to get up before 8 to reserve your towels around the pool.and everyone likes there own spots everyday!!!!!!!!would defo come bak to vilamoura and defo this hotel! we wemt with thomas cook we normally do and everyone from pilots cabin crew and reps were fab!

I stay in Vilamoura at least on ce a year, sometimes twice. Very recently I have been able to afford to stay in more expensive places, but this hotel is my favourite amongst the middle range. Great range of food at breakfast, nice rooms, and friendly staff. Great to wake up in the morning and see the view over the marina.

After visiting this fantastic hotel twice, I would have no problem in returning again.
The staff are great and friendly.

Fantastic hotel, very central

We have just come back from a week in Vilamoura and we stayed at the Vila Gale Marina. We decided to stay there after reading the numerous complementary reviews on Trip Adviser. The hotel is a wonderful place to stay. The staff are friendly and helpful, the bedrooms are great - ours was very spacious, the food is good and the facilities (swimming pool (outdoor and indoor), sauna, bar, etc are very good. The hotel is in a very central location and within 3 minutes you are at the marina.

We had a room on the 8th floor - particularly asked for one with a marina view, and had the added advantage of being able to see the sea as well.

We would definately recommend this hotel and Vilamoura in general.

Annoying golfers!

We have just had a weeks holiday at the Vila Gale Marina hotel in Vilamoura. The Hotel was lovely and in an excellent location very close to the Marina and the beach. The bus stop is less than a 5 minute walk away where you can catch a bus into Albufeira or Faro. There is also a little Dotto train which for 2 euros 50 you can use as many times as you like during the day. The hotel staff are very friendly and the rooms are very spacious and clean. We had half board and the meals were all very good with plenty of choice. The only annoyance at this hotel was the rowdy behaviour of the golfers let loose from their wives for a few days. They had no regard for other holidaymakers wanting a bit of peace and quiet. We will definately go again but next time will take ear plugs!!

We travelled from Cape Cod, Massachusetts for an 8 day stay at the Vila Gale Marina. We reallyliked the hotel. We had a junior suite on the 7th floor. Fantastic views of the harbor and pool area. Only complaints, poor lighting (energy saving bulbs are crummy) and the bathroom had a bad smell. We aired out the room. They charged us for ice, towels for the gym and use of the gym. The staff was fantastic. Gave me a bottle of champagne for my 50th birthday. The breakfast was the best. Loved all the fresh food. The location was terrific. The shuttles to the golf courses was very convienient. We felt we got great value with the hotel. Not with the Euro. Coming from America, stuff was expensive. Took a bus tour to Seville. A day well spent.

definately not a 4 star hotel

After reading all the reviews on this hotel i was happy to go ahead and book it, especially as it was a 4 star hotel.

But how wrong were they.....LET ME TELL YOU!!!!

The room was small, as was the bathroom. There was no proper lighting in the bedroom. The only source of light was a small lamp on the side board where the TV was. There was no central light from the celling, so getting ready for the evening was a bit hard.

The beds were really uncomfortable (they were 2 singles put together)and gave both my husband and i a backache. Every time i wanted to cuddle up to him, i would find my self slipping into the crack of the two adjoining beds!! The pillows were really lumpy and we ended up sleeping on the throw cushions.

There were no tea or coffe making facilities in the bedroom, so each morning we would have to wake up early and make sure we got ourselves down to breakfast before 10.30am.

The breakfast is nothing to write home about either, there were no pancakes or muffins etc. Just a small selection of cold meats, breads and some bacon, beans and tomatoes.

When we called reception for an iron, we were told we would have to use their laundary service, but was not available over the weekend and was not cheap!!

The only thing we enjoyed about this hotel was the location as it was a very short walk away from the marina and the beach.

We were here from 28/01/05-01/02/05, let me warn you that if you are after clubs and parties, then this is not the place to come as it is pretty dead during this time. Only a handful of places to eat and not much to do during the day apart from a stroll around the marina and beach. Do take a warm jacket/clothes as, although it is sunny, it can get quite blustery at times!!

We have stayed in 4 and 5 star hotels, as well as the good ole' travel inn. There is no way that we would class this hotel as a 4 star, it would barely reach a travel inn rating in our books.

If you are after a good 4 star hotel with little luxury like an iron and ironing board sent up to you, tea and coffee making facilites in your room, proper lighting and comfy beds then dont bother even thinking about booking this hotel ...you WILL be disappointed.

We've stayed at this hotel for 3 years and its so friendly and easy going that we wouldn't consider anywhere else in Vilamoura - its handy for the marina, the beach, the shops, restaurants and its all so easily accessible. We just love it here! The reception staff have gone out of their way to help us and nearly all speak very good English, which is useful. The rooms are nice, clean and well maintained, as is the gorgeous pool and bar/restaurant areas. We can't get to Portugal this year and I'm missing my stay at the Vila Gale already.

Christmas at the Vila Gale Marina

Just spent Christmas at the Vila Gale Marina in Vilamoura. Just a couple of problems. Second day was hampered by the adjoining rooms being sprayed with some sort of chemical, but after a word with the manager we were moved to a junior suite on the 9th floor, so highly delighted with their swift and positive action. It was very quiet in the hotel, in fact too quiet and at times boring. I was ill whilst I was there and was disappointed when my husband was stopped from bringing food bought from the coffee shop to our room. They said we had to use the very expensive room service. The staff were very helpful and courteous. Vilamoura in the summer is a lively and vibrant place. At Christmas it is totally dead and boring. We did travel about a little which broke the monotony and we are only grateful that we had some t.v. channels in our room.

Nice hotel and resort area

12/9/04-19/9/04 : Hotel is 25 minutes from Faro Airport. After reading previous reviews I asked for a room on the 7th floor or higher. I suggest you do the same as the views of the marina are superb!!! Any lower and you start to have views of rooftops of nearby properties. The hotel rooms are above average with good television channels(BBC1/BBC2etc). The buffet served until 1030 is excellent!!!!Plenty of food avaliable until 1030, so no need to rush. The poolside gets very busy....but only 300 metres away is a gorgeous beach, so go their instead! The King Palace curry house is the best so try it, forget Rui's, we walked out after waiting 45minutes to be served. It has become too popular for its owner/staff to cope. Food quality was very poor!Normandia restaurant was good, irish pub ok and the pizza place infront of the hotel good. The resort is very clean, relaxed and pleasing to the eye, enjoy!

Wonderful Resort, Superb Hotel

Returned from Portugal 3 weeks ago. Stayed at Vila Gale Marina. Villamoura is lovely, quite green and well kept.
The rooms at our hotel were very comfortable, The staff are very good and nothing was too much trouble for them.

Every kind of breakfast you could wish for was available. (Didn't try the bacon though)

The area around the poolside is lovely and I can confirm that the water in the pool is really cold!!! I don't know why.

The marina is fantastic both by day and night, and is only a short stroll from the hotel. There are loads of places to eat, and it is really nice strolling along around there in the night time choosing from one of the many resturants to eat.

We went to Marine Land and the dolphin show was spectular. There was lots to do there, and our 4year old daughter loved it.
We also went to Krazy world, which was not as good, and much too expensive for what was available.

We would definately recommend this resort, and would go back again

Came back from Vila Gale Marina hotel on 29th August 2004. We went for 3 nights. Firstly the resort: The hotel is located about 20 minutes from Faro airport. Everything you need for a great holiday is near by. The beach is a 5 minute walk away, just turn right out of the hotel and walk straight ahead. It's a beautiful long sandy beach but sunbeds and parosols are expensive. The marina is just across the road, here you can find bars, restuarants and souviner shops. There's a bus stop a 3 minute walk away from the hotel, we used a bus to get to the resort of Albuferia where we found everything was alot cheaper than Villamoura, including food, drinks, perfumes. There's a few local supermakets around, Jaffa's is located round the corner of the hotel and sells most things you'll need. There's also a casino near by with shows. Would strongly reccomend a restuarant called Rui's. It offers great food at good value prices,and all the meals are quite large, they even do a carvery every night. Also tried the first chinese you come across in the marina, that's also good value.
The Hotel: Every room has views onto the hotel pools. The outdoor swimming pools are a nice size, there's an adults pool and a childrens pool. Sunbeds go very quickly, so be prepared to grab them while you can. The rooms have hairdryers, bbc1 and bbc2, resonable wardrobe space and a nice size bathroom. The entertainment in the hotel isn't the best. On kareoke night the only people to sing were the hotel staff, however they were actually quite good. The entertainment highlight not to miss is the samba dancers, they realy livened up the place and put on a great show. The choice that was offered at breakfast was one of the best I have seen, eveything from fresh fruit, breads, cereals, full english including scrambled eggs fried eggs tomatoes etc, yoghurts and much more. The indoor pool, jaczzi, turkish bath, gym and games room were empty quite alot as the weather was goregeous. The bar prices in the hotel are quite expensive, I reccomend the Villamoura tropical cocktail.
Overall: We had a great holiday, there were 2, 17 year olds, 2, 39 year olds, and 2, 57 year olds and we all had a good time.

Hotel room was clean, tidy, spacious and had great views across the marina. Food in the restaurant was excellent and the staff very helpful.Swimming pool was large and clean with plenty of sunloungers.
Well stocked bar with nightly entertainment. Overall a great holiday and definitely worth a return visit next year.

Top Local Tips for Vilamoura

Shuttle for golfers Always make sure you allow plenty of time for pickup - if early morning tee time ensure you book 7am as it gets very busy

Look for the man handing out the leaflets!! Around the marina in Vilamoura are lots of very nice restaurants where you will receive a beautiful meal, however you will be approached by guys handing out leaflets giving details of their restaurant and offering the first drink free. The restaurants they are from are just a couple of minutes away from the marina but are so very easy to miss because they are not right in front of the water along with all the rest. They will also offer to take you there and show you where it is. We took them up on their offers 3 times and had excellent meals from lovely restaurants we would have otherwise missed. Once our meal was finished we walked back to the marina and were asked by they guys with the leaflets how it went and if we had enjoyed it!!!

Trips If you want to swim with dolphins book in advance if you can,we tried to book on first day but couldn`t get a time slot until after we returned home.
