Historical Traveller Reviews of Dom Pedro Golf Hotel

Beautiful Villamoura

from blueyes541
Hotel Dom Pedro Golf is a clean well presented hotel, we stayed their for 7 days, the entertainment in the hotel was poor, and some of the service left a little to be desired, especially in the restaurant. We stayed bed & breakfast, but there was little choice on offer. At the start of the week, you could request a boiled or fried egg, and it would be prepared for you. At the end of the week we were told that there would be a 3 euro charge... When challenged, they said that this was the way it was.

Pool area was lovely, bar snacks at lunch were excellent. Watch out for the prices of soft drinks from the bar, supermarket across the road is much cheaper, and they don't take your stuff out of the minibar fridge!!!

Villamoura, especially around the marina can be very expensive. Would recommend Chico's Real Restaurant & Riu's Bar & Carvery, the best food in Villamoura, and the best service from very friendly staff...

t eat at this hotel.

It´s difficult to put into words how bad the food is at this hotel. It is not a bad hotel, the staff are friendly, the accomodation is adequate but the standard of the catering beggars belief, lack of variety, taste, put this as one of the worst culinary experiences I have had at ANY standard of hotel. Book the hotel for it´s location, but only stay on a room only or if you are really desperate bed and breakfast, but DO NOT waste your money going full or even half board. SHOCKING is the only word to describe the catering at this hotel.

Not much enthusiasm to serve you well

This hotel is between 3-4 star. Staff is not super friendly nor super professional. Rooms are fine, very clean as everywhere in Portugal. Seaview is really in the distance, with another hotel partly blocking the view. The swimming pool and garden is nice. Sport/gym old and worn down. Breakfast okay. Lunch/dinner: quality is I would say medium. It is really not bad, but nothing special, I would say "hotel food quality", it's buffet style, has to be kept warm and reasonably tasting (and thus not crispy and fresh) for a long time. I had booked a club room, at check in I was simply informed that all club rooms were being renovated and I was offered a normal room for the same price. Yes, without any hint of giving back some of the money already paid to Expedia!! Free downgrading, very original. Another sign of uninterested reception service: it is only after being in your room, after the unpacking, that you discover that to use the mini safe you need a little plastic tube (the "activator"), so you have to get down again. Why does reception staff as a rule not simply ask the arriving guest "do you want to make use of your mini safe"? It's just an example. All in all, really not a bad experience, but it could be better. Location is fine, opposite the casino, and 5 minutes by foot from the Marina, and ditto from the beach. For night life however, Albufeira is a much better choice, by car 15 minutes away.

a great place to stay

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at this hotel. We found the whole experience very relaxing even in the height of the holiday season. My husband was especially happy as he only got up early one morning to to get sunbeds only to find that there were plenty available and no need to arise early each day. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel itself was very clean and I think most of the rooms have recently been re-decorated. The resort itself is very laid back. Some nice shops and restaurants. The restaurants around the marina can be a bit pricey but futher back, about five minutes walk behind the marina there are a few reasonably priced restaurants, especially the Portuguese and the Italian ones. We had a great week and would certainly go back.

Good hotel

Just returned from a week staying at this hotel in Vilamoura. I would have to agree with the previous review that this hotel could do with a bit of a facelift. Our room certainly needed a fresh coat of paint and the air con system is pretty noisy at night.

The staff were very courteous and helpful, and breakfast had a great selection.
There wasnt much entertainment here , not that it bothered us as we went out for dinner every night.
The hotel is in a perfect position for both the beach and marina.

Vilamoura is a lovely place, with a picturesque marina, but eating out at the marina can be very expensive. Our favourite restuarants were the "Thai" restaurant which is behind the marina near "McDonalds" and an Italian on the marina (left hand corner, if you were facing the marina from the sea).

A good all rounder---- Give it a go!!!!!!!!!!!

Stayed at Don Pedro from 03/06/05 - 06/06/05 long weekend, hotel very nice, a little tired but rooms are very clean and spacious and we are very fussy so do not be put off by bad reviews, its worth a go, honestly. Excellent location, excellent pool, mature gardens but flies are a bloody nuisance. Breakfast very nice, they will cook to order you only have to ask, we had fried eggs every day by order. Staff are very efficient, no entertainment program but that did not bother us but for some families it could be a negative point. The best part about our holiday was the little Tapas bar across the way " Don Quiotox" a must, superb food, waiting time is a little longer than it's counterpart next door "Caddy Shack" good if you want the typical british food/cafe, can recomment the Garlic King Prawns, Garlic Mussles, Chicken Wings and Don Quiotex Pizza, fab food cooked to order at a great price. The casion nearby is also good for late night food, get the steak and bread and the toasties all servied in luxury surroundings. Happy to answer any questions

Sadly no longer a four start hotel!

from Moorlands
We have stayed @ the Dom Pedro Golf hotel on four previous occasions and sadly we found that on our recent visit, the overall standards have somewhat gone into decline.
The animation programme, which was previously very good, is no more. The cleaning, catering and bar staff we found to be rude, unobliging and arrogant although Reception staff were helpful.
The choice of food at breakfast was very limited and the "restaraunt" is in dire need of refurbishment.
Pool towels were a disgrace, only fit for the bin - frayed, discoloured and thinning. The majority of the sunbeds were cracked/split and in need of replacement.
To add insult to injury on the third day of our stay external refurbishment works started - the noise and mess wrecked what is normally a very peaceful setting.
Three days of rain of course didn't help our mood!
The bubble for us was unfortunately well and truly burst and we will not be returning!

Not a four star hotel in my eyes

I booked via a travel agent and had a sea view, looking at the hotel it advertised club rooms this was an extra 28.50 euros for a sea view with an upgrade in furniture they also said you would be treated like VIP. The hotel is tired and yes we did have a sea view but I think it was expensive. The room was clean and tidy, no tea making facilities and you had to pay for items to be ironed (so perhaps I should have brought my travel iron)
Breakfast was good with various breads, cakes, cold meats and cheeses where it lets it self down was that the hot food items were in fact luke warm which was disappointing. There are some excellent restaurants locally and the marina is only 5 minutes away there was an excellent pasta and Pizza restaurant in the marina, busy every night they dont take credit cards only euros the food was great. Booking a hire car if you need an automatic I would suggest that you book whilst in england, car hire varied considerably and I would suggest that you did not book via hotel or travel agent, shop about on the net I was quoted from one company 133 Euros all inclusive for an automatic which was an excellent deal.

Went well off season (November) so hotel was largely empty of vile British tourists. Staff were very friendly and breakfast wasn't at all bad with much choice. Nice grounds & pool but uncomfortable bed & awkward shower. Supposed to have wireless internet access in lounge which didn't work and wholeplace could have done with a lick of paint. However very cheap (GBP 35 per night inc breakfast) so not complaining. Love the (well cared for) cats, but make no mistake Vilamoura is Blackpool transported to Portugal, full of English & Scottish gits.

A Pleasant and warm stay at Vilamoura

We had a pleasant stay at the Dom Pedro Golf Hotel in Vilamoura. Very good buffet breakfast and dinner. Clean and nice rooms. Worth mentioning are also the big pool with a marvelous garden with trees spread al over it, so we could avoid the warm sun when we wanted so.

Top Local Tips for Vilamoura

BBQ night at a nearby hotel Go to the barbecue night at neighbouring hotel Atlantis about a 2 minute walk - for 25 Euros it is a great night, loads of food, dancing, participation - lots of fun. Well worth it.

Eating Out It is worth going to the restaurants behind the first ros around the Marina. You will find them a bit cheaper.

Take a break from sunbathing Take the free trip to the shopping mall
