At the time of my visit I was waiting for knee replacement surgery, so I was walking very slowly with limited strength and using a wheelchair for shopping etc. I did not have a wheelchair with me in Portugal.
The hotel is very smart with some lovely feature, including wonderful vaulted ceilings to the main floor. Built upside down and falling away in five floor to pool level, entry is from a large car park catering for guests with plenty of spaces for hired cars. The lifts were generally reliable except for the one up from the pool level which seemed to have a mind of its own and could be controlled by staff externally. The pool area and grounds were beautifully kept and level with walkways feature ramps and gentle slopes, although I found the beach inaccessable because of the fairly steep flight of steps.
When we arrived we were given a room at pool level but we found it very noisy as there was some sort of convention having a poolside reception, so we had loud mobile phone conversations outside the balcony and when we sat outside we felt a bit public.
We asked to move and were given a lovely room on the main entry floor with access to an exit from the hotel out onto the headland which was fabulous for me as I would never have made it otherwise.
The main bar and the restaurant were on the same level and it was very pleasant to sit out on their terrace and watch the sea.
The room was large with plenty of move around space and a very good sized bathroom with a rail in the wall to help me in and out. We had a vast balcony where I could lie full length on a lounger.
Even with a new knee I would still return the the hotel, because it is so stunning.
Relaxing Honeymoon with awesome Sceneryfrom tpol
Rooms: The rooms are extremely clean with a large bathroom, and it is cleaned every day. The rooms are very quiet and you can be sure that if you want to sleep in, that you won't be awaken by noise.
The Food: Breakfast was pretty decent. I like eggs, so I was very satisfied with that. They also serve a variety of different cheeses, and breads and muffins. My husband is very picky went it comes to breakfast so he was not as satisfied as I was, but we were both very full each morning.
Pool and Beach: Pool is good. It's more of a quiet place where most people go to tan and relax. The beach off the hotel isn't much. Although the rocky scenery is beautiful, and the caves around the beach are a mystery of its own, there is not much space to swim and bathe since there are many rocks in the water. Also consider the fact that it gets dangerous once the tide is high because it covers the beach. We went to Carvoiero beach and Carvalho beach and it was definitely worth it. PS Don't walk. The reception staff told us we could get there in a 5 minute walk. It ended up being more of a 40 minute walk under the scolding sun, up and down hills. Take my word for it, a cab is better.
Area: The area is great. If you just go down the street (10 minute walk) you can access a variety of small shops, stores and restaurants. The food at the restaurants are definietly worth. High quality for cheap price. Try the Steak House on the main street. That street is also where the place to be at night. Whether you want to go clubbing, have a quiet evening, watch a soccer game, definitely worth the walk. It always ended our evenings great.
Service: Excellent. They messed up our reservation at the restaurant the last evening we were there. The Manager of the Hotel then arranged to have dinner served on our terrrasse. They actually got tables, candles, chairs, silverware, the whole thing and we had our meal served there by our own personal waiter! We were very impressed. And it ended our honeymoon with the perfect touch!

A GEM IN THE SUN OF THE ALGARVEfrom A TripAdvisor Member
All of the rooms are well appointed and giving you plenty of space for additional comfort.Hotel staff I cannot praise highly enough, from the moment you check in you feel at home and made to feel part of the family.
The main restaurant is located on the 5th floor-same level as reception, service and food excellant.Downstairs to the 4th floor is the breakfast room-once again all ones needs both hot or cold-buffet style.
Lunch is served by the poolside in yet another restaurant either buffet or cooked to order from the menu.
Outside are two swimming pools-deep one for adults and a shallow one for the children also a putting green for the beginners befor venturing out to the fantastic golf greens nearby.
There is also a kiddies club with trained staff to help look after them and give you a break. An indoor swimming pool is also there and a relaxing massage is on hand along with all other beauty treatments-well worth a visit. For the more fitness minded there is a fully equiped gym.
Evening entertainment is also arranged each evening at 9 pm in the lounge bar area.
If it's a relaxing holiday you want-this is the one !

Top Local Tips for Praia Do Carvoeiro
Walk along the coast line From the Tivoli hotel there's rough paths that go either way along the edge of the coast. To the right you'll reach the village, and find a great lil restaurant set into the cliffs, biggest tuna steak I've seen in my life! To the left you'll find a lovely beach down a lot of stairs with caves that you can have a nosy in.
Villa Medici Italian Restaurant Ate in this restaurant, (may have the name slightly incorrect but Medici correct) and the food was brilliant and the decor and ambience first class. Loved the evening we had there and would highly recommend it.
Rent a car (SixT were cheap) ... and visit Porches, Albufeira & Lagos at the very least! Lisbon is beautiful and only a 2 hour drive away, but AVOID Spain unless you are prepared to drive a hundred miles for civilization!
