Though this was a bit out of the way it was near a metro stop which had just opened. The hotel itself was beautiful, and as we were up on the 7th floor we had wonderful views out across Porto and beyond. Our room was clean and spacious and everything we wanted was there and the staff was friendly. My only fault was that there wasn't much information in the room about facilities.

Top Local Tips for Porto

Calling Meat Eaters Eat at the Churrascao Gaucho, about 500m from the hotel on the Avienda Boavista and choose the Rodizio from the menu. Basically they bring skewers of freshly grilled beef and pork and slice it onto your plate until you shout surrender! Yes, you get some vegetables with it but don't waste too much space on them. Good value for 20 Euro.

Use the light rail system from the airport to shave some cost If you fly into Porto, be aware that they have a very efficient light rail/subway system that can get you to most major areas of the city directly from the airport. The cost of the average fare is just a couple Euros per person compared to 15 - 16 Euros (or more) for a taxi. Research their rail routes to be sure it will get you close to your hotel. We could have taken the Metro and ended up with a short, 5 minute walk to our hotel the first day had I been more diligent in my research of public transportation in Porto.

Avoid the taxis Use the excellent Metro & Bus service as the taxis, although cheap, treat pedestirans as an obstacle that needs to be got around even on a crossing.
