This hotel was an old family home set in stunning gardens with beautiful plants and flowers. Our room was large and very well furnished. We were lucky enough to have a large terrace accessible from our junior suite which boasted almost 360 degree views of the island and the sea. The staff and services were first class. We had an excellent courtesy bus to the central of Funchal. The staff recommended the best restaurants if we wanted to go out to eat but, in truth, none were as good as the hotel restaurant which was outstanding. We enjoyed the poolside (they even have a well stocked library for books) and the bistro lunches. By the way, we do hope Columbo has recovered. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Levada Walks and Restaurants One of the best things in Madeira Island is the levada walks, the best way to discover the Island. All the restaurants in the old town are very good.

Use taxis they are worth it. The taxis are cheap. Walk down to the town and get a taxi back. it will cost you about 5 euro's. The taxi drivers are worth considering in place of tour buses. They know their way around the tangled streets and will stay with you the whole day at a much cheaper price than a tour bus. You can negotiate a price before you set out.
