Wonderful staff make this a great place

We have had a time share at the Club for 10 plus years and never want to exchange to go elsewhere. Staff are great especially Joel at reception. The club had problems in 04/05 with refurbishment but it is now OK again. Just a very pleasant and friendly place in a wonderful holiday island.

Without a Facade the Madeira Regency Club struggles to get noticed against the backdrop of the Savoy(s) but take it from a regular, that is all they struggle on. Holidays are about people and the management and staff at the regency Club are second to none. From the modest and quiet Pool "boys" who will feel abashed if you try to move your own parasol (and its not about tipping - they feel that is their job) to the room maintenance team - they are all out to make sure you have a great stay in Funchal. We have been to the Regency Club on many occasions and found very few faults (nothing is perfect). Location is important and there are many excellent cafes, bars and restaurants within a short walk of either entrance. If you chose self-catering the hotel has an excellent "super-market" attached to the garage at ground floor level. Here "Amarina" will sertve you anything from a pack of biscuits to a fresh chicken (24 hour delay). Carlos (on the Desk) has a wicked sense of humour but needs bringing out of himself sometimes - he will arrange best cost taxis for you and can (and will) make restaurant and entertainment reservations without fuss or expectation of gratuity (Iexpect he does quite well nevertheless). Go and stay there.

Top Local Tips for Funchal

Street Sledges - Ace!!! The street sledging was fantastic! We are a family of 3 and had a great time, a little scary but brilliant. If you want to make a day of it go up on the monorail and come back on the sledge then walk the rest of the way down. We loved it! We were considering the Taxi's but had been warned that they are expensive, so we decided to walk - the taxi drivers were not impressed. But it is only about 10Km and it is all downhill, so your calves might ache at the end but you see some great views.

Football ! Madeira has two football (soccer) teams in the portuguese top division. The best of the two (normally), CS Maritimo, plays at home at the Barreiros stadium, 20 min. walk from the Regency club. Ticket prices are low, and it rarely is a problem to get a ticket. Tickets can be bought at the stadium just before the match starts, or at the CS Maritimo club shop in Rua D. Carlos I, 14 (the old town).

Time Share Touts Don't take part in a 'survey' on the sea front, even if you win a prize! - you'll end up being pressurised into a time share presentation! Every day we were approached by at least two!
