Excellent hotel in a good position, staff were both friendly and professional, we had a room above the restaurant so it was quiet and overlooked the patio with a great view of Funchal. Facilities were good and the whole place was clean and tidy at all times. Would definitely go back and recomend this hotel.

Louis Hamilton eat your heart out Public transport is plentiful and cheap BUT the drivers are less than sympathetic to their passengers. So if you are prone to be travel sick take your KWELLS !!!!

walking the levadas Do your research if you chooose to walk the levadas without joining an organised walk. There are many levada walks, but the level of danger described differently in various publications, which is confusing.... Inspect the maps for the 'vertigo' spots, they really are sheer drops with narrow paths (30 to 40 cm wide) IF YOU ARE LUCKY!. If you reach one of these challenges, look at your boots and not the drop. A trecking pole can be reassuring. We met folk who choose to walk IN the levada, as it was safer than the uneven or collapsing path. Let us hope there is an ongoing programme to maintain the paths and add railings at essential. This will encourage tourists to return to the beautiful island to explore further levadas. Perhaps there should be an update of the condition of the levada walks, as improvements are made? It is a shame if a good levada route is spoilt by only a few yards of dangerous exposed drops.l

If you can - hire a car Avoid being herded around and enjoy the great scenery. Be mindful that some roads are EXTREMELY steep, and twisty.
