Top Local Tips for Luso

Leitão Sample the leitão - roast suckling pig - in Mealhada, just south of Luso. This town serves the best leitão in Portugal, and the Portuguese travel far to enjoy it. Typically served with sparkling white local wine or local Bairrada reds.

Beware the oddly translated map of the Bussaco forest. The hotel provided us with a somewhat poorly translated map of the forest. It took us about a 1/2 hour just to find the entrance to the first of the three walks the map recommended. The forest itself has next to no signage on the paths and this was the one time I left the GPS in the car. There were lots of wrong turns to take and we took quite a few of them. We eventually found our way by simply sticking to the largest pathway where-ever we went.

Combine with a trip to Coimbra Combine one night at the Bussaco after a city trip to Coimbra, in-between visits to Lisbon and Porto.
