Together with several other guests we were sent to another VIP hotel far away from the center of the city because the hotel was overbooked.

Don't deserve the 4 stars!

I wouldn't go back again. The staff are rude and we found stains on the bedspread. the telephone didn't work and the shower was like water coming out from a hose pipe. There was no mini bar and no room service. So if you want an extra pillow you'll have to go to reception to get it yourself.

Vip Hotel Eden was an excellent choice for a weekend break in Lisbon. The location of the hotel is just perfect. Althoug it is in the very heart of Lisbon, rooms are very quiet, even the once facing in the street.
Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. We were called "the best guests in the hotel" because we were always cheerful and happy.
I would definetely recommend Vip Eden to anyone visiting Lisbon. Having your own kitchen is lovely, even just for boiling water for your tee. Breakfast (5e) was good also, we had it every morning.

Top Local Tips for Lisbon

Buses, etc. Don't use taxis in Lisbon. We were told they are a rip off. They're not necessary. You can catch a bus from the airport to downtown for 1.35 euro pp and with all the stops, it takes about 35 minutes to reach the VIP Eden. Make sure you get the Viva (?) day pass. You can buy it at the Metro station next to VIP Eden. For 3.50 euros (?), you get a 24-hour pass that's good on all city buses, trams, trolleys and the Metro. You can also use that pass to ride the famous Santa Justa elevator. Great value!

Planning your Lisbon time We went to Lisbon to soak up history, culture and ambience. We spent 2 days in Lisbon and 1 in Sintra. I would recommend seeing Lisbon first for contrast and context, but I would definitely spend more time in Sintra on a short break. Travel from Lisbon is cheap (3.20E return) and simple by train/metro (don't fall for the rip off package day tours!), but hire cars also have an advantage of getting you around the 4 or 5 main Sintra attractions in one day if necessary.

Smoking Unfortunately there are no non smoking restaurants in Lisbon. All Portuguese smoke and we have had some great meals ruined by the stench of cigarette smoke. Try to dine early and sit by the door.
