Top Local Tips for Lisbon

Delays at departure When leaving Lisbon, make sure you get through to your departure gate in good time. We had to go through yet another passport check in order to reach our gate and the staff were not in a hurry!

Museums These are closed on Mondays except for the Castle and the Basilica so visit the sites over the weekend or during the week

Ride the Trolleys, Trains and Ferries 1. Take the trolley #28 from one side of town to the other to get a good feel of some unique neighborhoods in Lisbon, and to give an idea of some areas to check out. 2. Take the train all the way to Sintra, which takes about 40 minutes (and travels past endless apartment buildings), to come upon a unique fairytale village that has plenty of visitors, but has a feel from way back in time. Once at the Sintra station, proceed in the direction the train was heading (it's the end of the train line) by bus, or by walking around the next bend in the road to get to the village. 3. Take a ferry across the "river" to get a view of Lisbon from the water, and to see life on the other side. We did all of these while in Lisbon, and each was a good way to get a new perspective on the place.
