quick snack near hotel if you arrive in Lisbon around midday and you are starving, there is a good cafe near the hotel (just across the road from the Dom Carlos Libery) its a chain of restaurants snack bar, its called Coffee Pot, Try it out for a quick meal.

Forget renting a car The Metro in Lisbon is great! Clean, easy to navigate and affordable. I paid about 6 Euros for 10 passes. We used it to get all over - to dinner, to the train station, to the river and back. I definitely recommend public transportation in Lisbon - parking would have been impossible, especially in some of the older areas of the city. And, navigating this city was hard enough for some of our taxi drivers (who used GPS); imagine how difficult it would be for a foreigner! The local trains are also great - we took a day trip to Sintra for about 10 Euros, and went to the south of Portugal for a few days for 17 Euros. The trains are reliable (down to the second), clean, and it is very easy to get tickets (no advance ticketing required). Forget the hassles and cost of a rental car - spend less time wondering which road you are on and more time enjoying the atmosphere of this great city.
