Close and wonderful

The hotel lies on a hill (half up) just off the main tree lined 12 lane boulevard + metro leading to the harbour. There are wonderful restaurants all around, internet cafes, life, the Cinema museum, the Rossio station for trains to the king's palaces in Sintra a few handed meters away. Easy access to the high quarters to the west with intricate local life, bookstores, dogs, people, bars, ... and to the east alfama (castle). There is no better location in all of Lisbon.
The hotel is comfortable, clean, and quiet. Helpful desk staff, fair prices, large breakfast. Not luxury, but quite sufficient and restful. For those who want to live a bit inside of Lisbon, this is ideal.

Top Local Tips for Lisbon

Pickpockets Be very careful when travelling on the old trams, especially to the castle. My husband had his pocket picked and lost E50. They did however give him his wallet back with the 2 Lisboa cards still there! Fortunately the credit cards were not in the wallet but in a separate wallet in another pocket.

Tips re. transportation in Lisbon We got a taxi voucher at the airport when we arrived. It was helpful, although it was 7 EUR more than the taxi to the airport that we paid based on the meter. Taxis are not expensive and are worth taking when public transportation is not nearby. A reliable company is Radio-Taxi at 218100410. They never took us on "additional" rides, something we were concerned about. We found the 7 Collinas card for a day very useful (it is around 3.30 EUR and it works for a calendar day, not 24 hours). Although we found it impossible to get a bus map (like the ones posted at bus stations), we managed to take full advantage of the public transportation.
