Great Hotel

We visited the Britania Hotel over Easter and would recommend it without hesitation. The location is superb, convenient for the centre of the city (and close to the airport bus route) but very quiet. Our room was spacious, very clean and had been recently renovated in an art deco style. The staff were very helpful and friendly, recommending attractions and telling us where to go and where not to go. The breakfast was excellent. Really, we have nothing that we can possibly complain about.

well worth the money, a great place to stay

We stayed at Hotel Britania in March 2006 and we would like to thank everyone on the staff there. They made our visit to Lisbon into a great holiday. They were helpful, polite, cheery and knowledgeable. Nothing was too much trouble, everyone seems to enjoy working there and the enthusiasm spills over to the guests. The rooms are big and quiet, the beds are comfortable, and the hotels location is ideal. We walked to all the tourist spots, and the fashion shops are just around the corner. We travel frequently and it's not often that we are moved to write a glowing reference for a hotel, but this hotel really stands out. Thank you everyone at Britania for making your hotel feel like our home.

Excellent before during and after visit...

This hotel has everything, good location, excellent staff, charming decor and our room and bathroom were very large for a city hotel. I emailed the hotel before I travelled to ask about airport transfers and they told me the price of a taxi but also easy directions to use the Aerobus. This was an excellent service which stopped a two minute walk from the hotel and was free on production of my TAP Portugal boarding card! This saved us the price of a good bottle of wine that evening and was as easy as a taxi. Breakfast was excellent and the lady who served and set the tables (all on her own) was the best I have ever seen... she never stopped, tables were always laid ready and the foods replenished constantly. Front desk staff were friendly, knowledgeable and courteous which made you feel very welcome. Our two nights there were perfect in every way. Finally when I arrived home I realised that I had stupidly left some clothes in my hotel room drawer (I was just so chilled-out staying there)! I emailed the hotel and they assurred me that the clothes were found and then posted them home to me within five days, at no cost. So excellent service before during and after stay... I will definitely be back to this hotel, Lisbon and the surrounding coast are beautiful and such a more relaxing city break than the average. Highly recommended ++

Good price/service Level

Very good hotel. The rooms are nice decorated and clean. The whole staff was very helpfull and could always give a useful answer: restaurant recommendations, trip to belem, etc.
Also the location was very good. The airport shuttle bus (nr. 91) stopped just a 3 minute walk away (stopp: avenida) from the hotel. Altough the hotel is near the lisboa city center, it's was very quite in the rooms.
Breakfast was good too. Small but very good choice of food.
Overall: would stay there also on my next trips to lisboa.

charming. stylish. comfortable. friendly. recommended highly. words few because already written this out once and it got lost in cyber space because I hadn't ticked the "I am the owner of these photographs" box!!!

Very convenient

Great location, super friendly staff, and lovely deco features. Our room was large and clean, the bathroom spotlessly clean too. The breakfast buffet was fine, fresh fruit rather than tinned etc.
Shame the bar was quiet as I'd have liked to have had a cocktail there, but it' was February and pretty quiet everywhere.
Get the bus from the airport and get off by Avenida metro station, it's a 2 minute walk from there.
I'd recommend Oliviers Restaurant in the Barrio Alto. While not technically brilliant cooking ( eg. carpaccios, fois gras) it's of a high standard and it's incredible value for money, 30 euros for 9 starters and a main course, and they bent over backwards to cater for my vegetarian girlfriend (the weirdo!) Probably have to book in advance though, it was full on the Saturday we went.
So, if you're going to Lisbon, stay at the Britania.

One of the best hotels

We stayed at the hotel for four nights in february 2006. The warm welcoming atmosphere by the staff - from the reception to the roomservice - togheter with the familiar feeling, nice rooms etc makes this one of the best hotels we ever have stayed in. We long for coming back when returning to Lisbon.

Beautiful hotel, excellent service

An architecturally beautiful art deco hotel that is actively kept up to date (for example, the cork floors in each room had just been restored to their original state). The rooms are very large, > 400 s.f. Staff is helpful and friendly and speaks english well. Great location just off of the Avenida de Liberdade, less than a 10 minute walk from the Rossio. Area surrounding the hotel is safe and has lots of high-end shops (e.g., Louis Vuitton).

We were able to get a rate lower than advertised on the hotel's web site by calling to make our reservation (and by making the reservation by phone we did not need to pay up front as stated on their web site). However, you should confirm your reservation by phone as we had a confirmation by email but it turned out that they had mixed up our reservation with their sister hotel Hotel Lisboa Plaza. We ended up spending the first part of the week at Lisboa Plaza (also a nice hotel but not quite as nice as Britania) and the second part of the week at Britania.

If we return to Lisbon, we would definitely stay here again!

Fantastic Hotel

My partner arranged this trip as a surprise for my birthday. He booked it on the strength of the previous reviews and we were not disappointed.

On arrival, the reception staff were extremely helpful, showing us the best places to go to in Lisbon and how to get there.. We had arrived on an early morning flight and as breakfast was still being served we were offered a complimentary breakfast.

Our room was fantastic, very spacious, contemporary decor and very clean. The bed was very comfy. The hotel knew the weekend was a surprise and had placed a complimentary bottle of champagne in the room. Our room was directly opposite the lift but it was really quiet.

There is no restaurant, but the staff were keen to recommend restaurants to go to. The bar area is welcoming and nice to retire to after a busy days sightseeing or for a late night drink.

Breakfast was good with a wide selection and is served late into the morning.

A great hotel, with great service in a great location.

Terrific hotel

We've just returned from 3 nights here. The room ( on first floor) was huge and the staff are amazing. Breakfast is excellent - and, again the staff here are very good.

Would highly recommend. As a previous reviewer has said - it's not right in the heart of things but the walk to the centre is short. Beware the white slippery cobbles that are Lisbon's pavements though!

Very good restaurants are close by as is the metro, tram and bus stops. Would recommend a taxi from the airport though - cost about 15 euros.

Top Local Tips for Lisbon

Dining & Wining Food and local wines are great. Prices lower than other European cities. Fish & seafood very good.

Expo Do make time to go the Expo area and allow enough time to just wander around as its huge. Get to Oriente on the metro - very easy to follow the lines - and just soak up the entire space before sampling the world of things to see and do.

Clubbing You have to get to LUX, the coolest club anywhere. Spacious, airy with chandeliers everywhere!! It was 12 euros in but you are given 12 eruos worth of bar tokens at the door so can drink back the money you spend on entry.The roof top bar has a a fabulous patio and view, the music is great and portugeuese champagne is only 30 euros.
