The breakfast/bar area could be updated, but it was clean and neat. The location is fabulous, as it is close to he S. train station, bus stop to the airport, near Baixa and St. George's Castle, a major tourist bureau, wonderful restaurants, shops, and post office! I will be staying there again this coming September.

Top Local Tips for Lisbon

Bus and tram Travel Get a day ticket which allows unlimited travel on the Metro, buses and trams. You do not need one for every day of your time in Lisbon as you can walk to a lot of the sites from your hotel in Baixia. The centre of Lisbon is surprisingly small, but there is lots to see. You can get a ticket at the Elevator that takes you to Barrio Alto. The ticket offiice is located up the steps on the back of the elevator as you look uphill. (You will not know it is there without going up the steps). The 15E tram goes to Belem. 28E to Alfama (and terminate close to the major Baixia squares, so you can walk back) and Barrio Alto and is quite a historical trip. 25E goes to Barrio Alto and terminates in the same place as 28E, so you can go on one and return on the other. 12E goes around the castle. A mini bus can be caught near the Cathedral (Sé) that will take you to the castle entrance. Take care at the cafe if you have the cheap soup, they charge a lot for the bread and butter to go with it.

Getting round Use all the local transport and if you are over 65 particularly remember all fares which are already half the price of the UK are reduced by a further 50% if you say you are a senior citizen.Catch the train to Sintra, which is a must see place, it costa only 165 euros full price each way.Have a ride on the no 28 tram. The taxi from the airport to the hotel was just 8 euros but as the hotel is in a pedestrianised road you have to walk about 30 yards to the hotel,(Hope you can walk 30 yards!) Wear good shoes as the roads are cobbles.

Luso Cafe & Fado Get a reservation for table No. 14. Come early enough to see the tourist show since it is an interesting experience. But the real experience is in the Fado show in later evening. Starts at about 10:30 pm. Do not miss this. Food is pretty good as well, prices are a bit high, but worth it for the show you get to see.
