Elegant and beautiful

We hired a car at the Airport and followed the detailed instructions to the hotel but it was difficult to enter the small gateway - hint...drive past to the next traffic island and retrace your journey so you can enter more easily. However, once we had parked in the very small car park - you don't need to, just drive to the hotel door and a member of staff will take it to their large, concierge car park along the road and return it to you when requested - we realised we had come to a haven of charm, peace and elegance. Everything about the hotel spoke of care and beauty. The flower displays were astounding, the decor in this part of the hotel, the older part, was stunning and the staff so courteous without being patronising. Once we had registered, our bags were taken to our room and we were shown around, complete with map of the floors and the way to move between the older and newer parts, and made most welcome to ask any question we wanted. Our room on the 8th floor of the old part was lovely. It was on a corner of the building and had 2 balconies - one overlooking the sea, harbour and town across the gardens and one overlooking just the gardens and sea. Many photographic opportunities there! It was all we had been promised - minibar with complimentary soft drinks, beer etc, a bottle of Madeira wine, beautiful flowers, robes, slippers, some complimentary tickets for a Manager's cocktail party, a complimentary dinner (we had booked on a 4 night package, personally extended to 5 nights) and so on. The older part had charm but so did the newer extension which contained most of the spacious public rooms, again elegantly and tastefully decorated, again full of flowers and flowing soft furnishings. The sports facilities were excellent too and the weather wonderful - even in February. And the Breakfast was amazing - excellent food in wonderful surroundings. I cannot rate this hotel too highly. Nothing gave us any cause for concern or complaint at all. What meant so much as well was the "after care". We received a card from the hotel just after we had returned home, thanking us for staying and hoping we had a good journey etc., another letter when their new season began and even a sophisticated Christmas Card last December! Although we have only visited once, we feel part of the family!
