Short stay holiday
The hotel was friendly, welcoming with good facilities. Our visit was in March with mixed weather. If you hire a car from the airport get good directions. We got lost and the hotel receptionist did an excellent job of talking us in from the centre of Funchal. We can recommend Montanha for excellent food with friendly staff. The hotel's courtsey bus into Funchal is the best way in and out of the town.

Magnificent views from all the rooms and the roof top terrace with pool and gardens. The food and wine are excellent in the evening. Showers are powerful. Marble adorns every flat surface where possible even the stairs. The morning sun comes round the cliff side and hits the balcony where we were having our breakfast every day. The staff are very friendly and bend over backwards to make sure your stay is as enjoyable as possible. We stayed for two weeks and did not want to come home. We stayed the first two weeks of January and the weather was fantastic. The only down side was the roof top pool.... the temperature never rose above 4.5 C whereas the sea was averaging...Read more
