Luxurious mountain retreat

We went on their 5-day Garden Splendour package in September (2005) and have nothing but praise for this lovely property. The entire staff is friendly and efficient, the food is superb, the accommodation is very spacious and faultless except perhaps for the lighting in the bedroom. The only blot on an idyllic setting is that it is located up exceptionally steep and winding roads which are very intimidating for the would-be self driver. However the hotel does provide a twice daily complimentary mini-coach service to and from Funchal (approx. 8-10 kms away). Public transport is very difficult to access except for the fit and athletic! The alternative option is to take taxis which are not cheap. Renowned gardens and a golf course are part of the estate - the latter providing a truly challenging 18 holes. The Clubhouse offers every comfort and catering of a very high standard at most reasonable prices. Enjoy!
