Monte do Casal is a blissfully calm and relaxing country house hotel and the attention to detail and focus on absolute quality makes is a rare find indeed. It is only a short drive from Faro airport yet feels a heavenly million miles from the hustle and bustle of a resort. The team at this hotel, many of them Portuguese, works tirelessly to ensure each guest is comfortable and diligently cared for, matching the exacting standard demanded by owner Bill Hawkins.
I've travelled fairly extensively and enjoyed for the past 9 years the excellent customer service that is offered by the best hotels in the Middle East and around the world and would select Monte do Casal over any of them when looking for a relaxing,cosy luxury break. This is not a beach hotel, full of rowdy customers, or even families for most of the year (a fact which is enticing to me); it is a retreat up on a hillside where you will find clients who are civilised, not short of a bit of cash and looking for luxury.
The restauarant serves astonishingly good food and offers a carefully chosen wine list. I can thoroughly recommend the dégustation menu with selected wines for each course.
There are delightful touches such as the mid-morning fruit and cold towel which is brought to each guest around the pool, the refreshing sorbet and champagne which is similarly delivered each afternoon. There is a chance to find out about local places of interest, with a personal talk by the owner, and a chance to mingle with other guests at a weekly cocktail evening on the sun deck. For me, I will always remember the fabulous breakfast which was served on the terrace by the pool for us each morning, up at the villa; a really super way to avoid the whole ghastly 'going down for breakfast' experience which so many hotels seem to stick to! I strongly recommend the hotel to friends, family and acquaintances...and now to strangers who may read this.

Direct 4 Fun car hire Excellent value for money. Booked through economy car hire and were given an upgrade without asking. Professionally met, no problems and would re use.

300 days of sunshine a year We actually experienced this is true ! Of course temperatures drop to around (or just below) 20 degrees Celsius in the winter months, but it doesn't rain very often and even when it does, chances are you will still be able to have lunch on a terrace that same day.
