The Hotel Garbe is a nice hotel. I had paid for a standard room with no sea view but on arrival i was upgraded to room 121, which although small, had an amazing balcony overlooking the sea and pool, a great view. I would recommend this room ! The breakfast is great, especially with an outside seat listening to the waves wash against the shore (everything u could want except proper sausages and really nice bacon). It is situated in a a great location. On the beach, which i must say has lovely sand and clear water stretching for miles. A short walk into the town will avail you of many a restaurant. I ate at all the restaurants recommended in previous reviews. I must say that most are average. I personally would recommend the newly opened restaurant on the beach, a short walk from the hotel (i forget the name)... i had a v.nice swordfish steak there. Also, walk along the back streets of Armaco and you will find some lovely restaurants.. completely packed out with people in the know, these are the places to go. Also, if u fancy a water park, ask at reception, slide and splash is the place to be, i recommend the ride with 'body boards,' Albufeira isnt far... but dont go to the main town unless u want a 'lads' type holiday. The marina is very close, where u can swim with dolphins, although i didnt get the oppportunity to try this out.

Overall, i loved my relaxing holiday here. Not too many english thugs, not too many germans, the right mix of people to relax and enjoy the lovely weather. I wish i could've stayed longer. If I were to go back I would stay here.

Stayed In Hotel Garbe for 5 nights in the beginning of July. Coming through the small town was very put off all the high rise apartments that look shocking.

Was very nicely surprised when my van pulled outside the Hotel. Beautiful view from the bar ( which has a happy an hour from 7pm till 8pm each night ) but the " In bar entertainment " was a bit 70ish lounge music.

Rooms were clean, great air con, and large although I was situated outside the rubbish bins which were picked up every morning at about 8am. I ended up using them as an alarm clock.

I was not impressed with the breakfast. The Full English breakfast was caked in oil, the sausages were pretty horrible looking and the bread was a little hard to toast. In saying that, the service was excellent considering how many people they had to feed.

The pool was lovely, nice and clean and very family friendly, I was with a friend but never felt as though there were too many screaming children about. The beach was stunning. the lounges are cheap $7.00 for one 7am to 7pm and well worth it.

We ate at Clippers. I had the salmon which was stunning and my friend had the steak which he was also impressed by. The best plave we found to eat was called Miramar. Its about a 15 minute walk, ask recpetion. It was the best meal / seafood I have had in years.

I would stay at Hotel garbe again as it was cheap, and clean, but it does need to be updated a bit as it looks at though it is stuck in the 70's somewhat.

Its a great place to stay if you are planning loads of day trips

Great hotel, very clean and well run

from joeamy
Stayed 3 - 10 July 2005, upgraded to suite, sea view, inland view, any view you wanted, sea view magnificent, inland view 12 storey apartments. Beach was on the doorstep and 5 miles long and we walked it ! Lovely cool lounge, so clean at all times. Carpeted floor in room never had a crumb on it. Resort tacky in places best viewed in dark. restaurants in Garbe better than we found outside, Clipper good but Santola not a good bet and too dear. We could not fault the hotel only the high buildings behind it, but if you keep looking out to sea you will forget about them.

Great for relaxing by the pool

from Sheepskull
We stayed for a week in the last week of June and had a fantastic time. The rooms were spacious, modern and cleaned daily. The hotel staff also were very helpful and always friendly. Although we were B&B we opted to eat a couple of times in the hotel because it was great value and had plenty of choice (17Euro pp for evening buffet). The Raj restaurant (in the hotel) would satisfy even the most critical curry fan. The pool is also clean and well maintained and we didn't feel it was necessary to get a lounger on the beach as but it was easily accessible from the pool area.

We went in late June to avoid hordes of screaming kids and pretty much succeeded. The resort has a lot of local (Portugese and Spanish) holidaymakers which means at the weekend it was quite busy on the beach. However, this is a good sign as the small town of Armacao is relatively quiet with souvenier shops and plenty of restaurants. Food in the restaurants is of a reasonable standard and incredibly good value with plenty of fresh seafood on all the menus. Before 10am you can walk down the beach and join the local crowds who are buying direct from the small fishing boats that get hauled up the sand with their catch.

This is a hotel and resort for those looking for a real break from the rat race. There is just enough to keep you occupied and it is well within reach of other ports and towns should you want to vary your experience. Tip 1. Portugese red wine is much more palatable than the white. Tip 2. take a walk in the evening to the West part of the beach and onto the top of the cliffs (ignore the private signs as these refer to the hotels of grounds and not the path. Well worth a visit.

Excellent hotel and location

Just back from a stay 1-7 Jul 05 - we researched the hotel on Trip Advisor before going, and did not regret our choice. The hotel is in an excellent location right on the beach. We found the staff really helpful, the rooms spotless and the food superb - especially the in the RaJ.

Even in the peak of summer the hotel is quiet - great for relaxing.

Would go back in an instant!

Great Week on the Alfgarve

from GuvnorPB
Have just returned from a great week (3/10 Jun 05) at the Hotel Garbe. Having booked a sea view upgrade with the hotel, we were pleasantly suprised to be upgraded to a mini suite on arrival as they had one available.

The beach was magnificent and great for long walks in the morning before the heat of the day had set in. The hotel pool had plenty of sun loungers available although we tended to use the beach where a parasol and two loungers cost you 12 Euros for the day (note that is at any part of the day, so no reductions for a late arrival).

We used the Palm Beach Bar on the beach next to the hotel for all our daytime snacks and drinks. A really friendly owner and team who made us feel very much at home. Breakfast, as others have already said, was excellent with every combination of hot and cold food that you might want. We ate in the hotel on our first night and the food was OK, but preferred to eat out in the evenings.

We ate at Clippers (towards the centre on the left), Santola (in the village on the right) and Porters (just past Clippers in a side street). Clippers was lively with excellent food. Santola offered a great view over the beach where the flambee prawns as a starter were great. Porters was our favourite with the kebabs being very special. They also had Jacobs Creek on the menu which was a bonus as we struggled to find a Portugese wine that we really liked. I was allowed a special treat on the night before we left to sample the delights of Raj. A meal to be remembered not only for the excellent food, but for the fantastic view of the Atlantic rollers hitting the beach.

We will definitely return.

Perfect - Ideal for relaxing in the sun

from MichaelC1968
The Hotel Garbe proved perfect for our requirements. A great pool overlooking the sea, plenty of sun loungers and a handy poolside bar for ice cream and drinks. The beach is fantastic, a very long sandy bay with romm for everyone. We ate at the Raj - excellent, Cliper (Excellent) and the nearby chinese restaurant (OK). The Garbe is quiet and peaceful (not for people wanting a lively party atmosphere!) and whilst the town is not very picturesque, the Garbe is a great place to stay for a few days relaxation. The choice at breakfast is amazing, hot or cold there is something for everone.

Loved it!

We have just come back from staying at the Hotel Garbe for one week (w/c 16th May). The hotel was quiet on arrival but we were checked in early and upgraded to a sea view free of charge. The hotel is a genuine 4 star, offering a high standard of food and service. It's right on the most beautiful beach and 5 mins walk from the main restaurants and bars. Quiet this time of year but got gradually busier as the week progressed. There is a multitude of great restaurants - for those king prawn lovers out there try Kind Prawn a la Clipper from the Clipper restaurant - absolutely Fab! Santola also offers the best steak we have ever eaten. Absolutely loved the holiday - very relaxing and perfect for a couple looking for a quiet and romantic week away...

Very good hotel

from penelope057
My husband and I stayed for a week and found everything very good. The food was first class, plenty of choice, room very clean and sea view and balcony made it more interesting. The only problem was sometimes the water in the shower was non existent, but we were assured it was a temporary pump problem. All in all a very pleasant stay and we would definitely go there again

Top Local Tips for Armacao de Pera

Walks Try bus 1st and learn a little of the area, then hire a car hire local three days and go inland etc and places you have seen - just for starters

Getting there If you're first timer you'll need a good map to find the town.

Eating out First thing you should do after booking in is pick up a copy of Redmaps, its a free local map and is available in the hotel lobby. This details all the best local resturants bars and businesses. And we used it from the moment we got there and was not disapointed by any of the recomendations.
