Fantastic Family Holiday

from HappyHolidayMaker57
I have read many reviews regarding the Sheraton Pine Cliffs and have to say that none fully explain actually how good the resort is. We have young toddlers who were treated like little princes at this wonderful venue, by a super team on resort - especially the Children's Club. The accommodation was excellent along with the beach and various quality restaurants. We were lucky and booked online through a specialist company called Design Holidays and saved ourselves a considerable amount of money !

No doubt we will return.

P.S Golf was good without being to intense also.

s the Sheraton Algarve....

Truly an outstanding hotel. My family and I booked three rooms for three nights here beginning December 28, 2005. Although locating the hotel was a little tricky, once you do you never want to leave. We got a pretty good rate going to the site. A beautiful setting. Inside each room was a half bottle of Port wine and two glasses. Talk about great first impressions! We arrived near sunset so we went to the beach. Beautiful red cliffs (looking like Arizona) rising next to a sandy beach. If only you could make time stand still. The service was great, breakfasts included everything you could want (make sure breakfast is included in your rate!) and the restaurant at the entrance gate (the only one we ate at other than breakfast) offered great food and decent prices. This is the place to stay in the Algarve. If you want to get a massage or the like (as my wife did) book early...maybe when making reservations. Book it for longer than you expect to won't regret it!!

Truly Outstanding Hotel

from Kevin.Byrne
This hotel really is deserving of all the accolades that have been heaped upon it. Without a doubt, it is one of the best hotel resorts in Europe if not the world. The grounds are absolutely spacious and one never feels "too close" to any other guests at any time. The grounds are laid out spectacularly and are a real architectural lesson on how to create little alcoves and little tranquil spaces within a modern and highly sophisticated resort. One of the best things about this resort for me was its proximity to the beach. To get to the beach one has to descend a large man-made wooden staircase (or take the lift if you are feeling lazy). The view at the top of this staircase is spectacular and no less spectacular are the giant red-walled cliffs on either side of the staircase as one descends into the amphitheatre-like entrance to the beach listening to the background, resounding noise of the crickets, the noise amplified by the sheer cliff walls. When one makes one's way to the beach front, it really does feel like one of the most beautiful beaches (included is a picture of the sunset). The hotel provides its own towels to its guests together with a large parasol. The towels are returned each day and washed so if you are staying at Sheraton forget packing a beach towel - fresh ones are laid on each day.

The breakfasts at this hotel are absolutely outstanding also. Everything is extremely fresh and there is a huge choice capable of appeasing even the most discernable of palates!

When you want to come out of the midday sun there are a number of little shaded cafés where you can sip a cup of coffee and have a nice cool juice or water in really relaxed surroundings.

There are also a number of restaurants for evening meals. I tried the buffet where basically you can eat all you want. The problem with this is that the food is SO good you end up eating too much :) Everything ranging from the most succulent of beef to the most tender of lamb to the most well-prepared fowl/chicken and you name it. The desserts are equally well-prepared and delicious. So I had to try everything and ended up so full I don't think I ate the next day. However, I have to say everyone should try this buffet menu; just exercise some self-control!

Furthermore, the staff are exceptional and extremely professional. Never intrusive at any time, which is a hard thing to achieve.

I could go on forever about this hotel. Suffice it to say I will be back as soon as I can.

TIP - there is a little supermarket outside the main gates which sells water at about one-quarter the price of water sold on the complex... Considering how much water one drinks on a sun holiday, its worth stocking up on water from here to save some money if the budget is tight.

Adults without children BEWARE this zoo!

We had planned to stay for three nights in the Algarve on a trip to Portugal and as a platinum starwood member, I chose this place, based on pictures and room descriptions. First of all, there is the beach and there is the beach, right? One is relaxed, scenic, peaceful, comtemplative = the other is Seaside, Oregon or Atlantic City. This is the later. Even in October, when children are supposed to be back in school, this place was swarming with small children. Now raised and stayed at hotels with three children, and as long as you know what you are getting into or even looking for, others with children, great. But I was not ready at all for what was there. In addition, the super deluxe, incredible ocean views rooms we had reserved, were not available. In the end, they offered us a suite, but we declined to stay, too worn out from lack of sleep due to infants crying, toddlers up at 5 am, running and hollering, crowded breakfast spaces, YIKES~! Instead, they (and a wonderful person Sergio in particular AND the manager) suggested an alternative Starwood property in Evora. And with a good taste in our mouth from the efforts that they had made for us on our behalf, we traveled instead to Evora. That was an entirely different story, and one that you can read about in a review under that city's heading.

If you are looking for peace and quiet, few people, relaxation, this is not the place for adults, even in the shoulder season of October. What it did have was a helpful and respectful staff, eager to try to work with you. For that I am grateful. I would not ever bring me back.

Excellent Family Holiday

from gillgirl_9
Having just returned from 1 week at The Pinecliffs Resort I can highly recommend it for a relaxing break with an infant if this is at all possible. I travelled with my husband and 18 month old son and found everything in the resort to be very well thought out and planned, the service and food were excellent as was the layout and also the creche. We initially took an ocean view suite which turned out to be completely inadequate ( small and not particularly luxurious) but on moving to a 2 bed golf suite our holiday considerably improved. I can agree with the other reviewer who said that he was very disappointed with the suite, so were we. Apart from the suite, everything was perfect especially the wonderful position of the hotel on the cliffs. We will be returning next year!

Really Good for Families

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is a really great hotel for both the kids and the adults.
The kids club is really well run and the kids loved going there each day. The staff were very friendly and even when we were passing and just peeked in they kept up the same level of attention to the children etc.
Two small issues however, the walk to the beach is a pain with small children and the room service to the apartments and villas is not at all good and the prices pretty steep !

How can it be that a place like this is not awarded daily?

Service - Great
Staff - Great
Surroundings - PERFECT
Golf - Although only a 9 hole... perfect golf & views
Children facilities - Great
Standards - outstanding

I have been with and without my family in the best hotels & resorts wordwide... and today I recognize and discovered where my place is!

If you are looking for some nice vacations... with or without children this is your place... HEAVEN! At least for us it was!

High praise but parents beware

Better than excellent 5 star hotel which more than measures up to any comparison with other 5-star hotels in the vicinity.

Wonderful location. The grounds are extensive with large grassed areas and trees and there are there pools but beware that the elevated pool has a ledge which can easily be seen by adults but ignored by children. My own grandchild suddenly disappeared over the edge of the ledge and had to be rescued.

The beach is reached by elevator from which there's a boardwalk to the sea. It's a great beach but the effort of getting there makes a regular visit with toddlers a bit of a chore.... anyway, who needs it with such wonderful grounds.

The breakfast and dinner buffets are superb. Food is expensive if not includsive but just outside the hotel on the main road there are some very cheap eating places.. and a supermarket.. (Two, in fact)

Avoid heaping up your plate at the buffet! First take tiny samples to be sure that what you you are tasting is as good as it looks ! ... that's not to criticise the food, but it's embarrassing to leave too much uneaten food, and whlst the various dishes provide a guaranteed gourmet feast, not everything will taste as you expect it to and you may decide to leave it on your plate.

The staff are superb.

Hi just returned from a holday with two young children. I felt I had to warn parents about the danger of the toddler pool in the pirate club. It has an incline which means that it gets deeper in the middle which is very dangerous for a young child. This is not highlighted at this pool so beware. Also the steps around the hotel make it very difficult to get around with a buggy and access to the beach is a nightmare. All in all a good hotel with very nice staff but is not as child friendly as I was led to believe. I will not be travelling back again until my children are older

Mostly good

Second consecutive year that we stayed at this hotel. Location, service and setting is hard to beat.
The Good - Beach and beach restaurant, the gardens/grounds and facilities, kids club, all staff bar none.
The Bad - Some ridiculous pricing (eg. Tennis court with rackets for an hour was £25, Balls were £15 for tube of four), kids food was astronomical. Rooms dark (townhouse). Food generally style over substance.
The Ugly - Continual trying to sell us timeshare property on the estate - 6 attempts. Not what you expect of a 5* Hotel that you have spent a few thousand on.

The Good however far outweighs the negative - it is brilliant for families wanting quality.but would probably not be appropriate for couples seeking romance. We will probably go back as the kids loved it and therefore adults get a real holiday too.
