Historical Traveller Reviews of Real Bellavista Hotel & Spa

Very relaxing and comfortable

from Gerrydub
Have just returned from 10 days in this hotel on bed and breakfast basis. We chose this one from various offers on Lastminute(--) , based on the reviews on this website and were not disappointed. We wanted a quiet relaxing holiday in a comfortable hotel and this is exactly what we got. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. The whole hotel is absolutely spotless. The breakfast buffet was fine, what you would expect from a 4 star. The reception staff were very helpful. We used the courtesy bus a lot, mainly to the beach in the old town, and this was really useful. We only had dinner in the hotel on the first night as we arrived late, and this was a buffet for 23 Euros each, - not including drinks, though they had reduced this to a special offer of 18 euros each by the time we left. This is expensive considering the much lower prices in the town itself - we had dinner in different restaurants in the old town after that (15 mins walk all downhill) and there is a great choice and great value there. We used the hotel spa to get a massage and this was really excellent and good value (hotel guests get 10% off the regular prices which are very reasonable to begin with). We got slippers and fulffy robes and were encouraged to stay a while in the relaxation area afterwards, resting on loungers and having tea. The spa had a wide range of treatments so if you had more time or did not want to be out and about every day you could really indulge yourself. Only used the hotel pool /jacuzzi a little as we preferred to go to the beach, but it was fine, good temperature, though not very big. We had no interest in the hotel entertainment, so did not avail of this, though I agree with others comments in that it did not seem very imaginative or interesting. Absolutely no regrets about our choice and would stay there again if we ever go back to Albufeira. Would recommend.

Not the best 4 star hotel

from laughingmike
We booked 3 nights at the Bella Vista and intended booking for the final 4 nights of our stay in Albufeira, but moved as we weren't hugely impressed with the hotel.

The good points:-
Most staff very friendly (although the receptionist didn't make any effort to get us a room when we turned up before the 2pm check-in)
Rooms have air-conditioning and are very clean with a great bathroom
Breakfast is brilliant, with a huge choice and nothing to stop you going up again and again if you like.

The bad points:-
Location. The hotel is up a steep hill, 15 minutes between the strip and the old town. We chose to spend our final 4 nights in the old town, but whichever you prefer, this hotel is an annoying walk from both.
The pool area has about 50 sun loungers. When you consider that the hotel has 195 rooms it doesn't take a genius to realise these go very quickly. Loads of people (including ourselves) had to sunbathe on the grass away from the pool.
Bar prices are extortionate, 3 euros for a bottle of water.
Room service finishes at about 1130pm!!!!! In a 4* hotel I would expect 24hr room service, or at the very least until 1/2am
The gym charges 5 euros a day and the steam/sauna is a further 5 euros a day. In a 4* hotel I would expect these facilities to be free. If you want to use these facilities every day, as we were hoping, it adds a further £50 a week to your stay each. Out of principal we didn't.

All in all, not a satisfactory stay which is why we moved after 3 nights.

t expect entertainment

from copsha
We have just returned from a weeks half board stay at the Real Bellavista, the hotel is immaculately clean and the staff are smart friendly and very helpful, with the exception of George the barman!.
The hotel is situated in a quiet residential area midway between the Old Town and the "Strip" (15 minutes walk either way) which is very handy as the so called entertainment laid on at night is rubbish, bingo, mr and mrs. more bingo.
There is a well equipped gym as well as squash courts and a health spa, the pool area is rather small and quickly fills up, so you'll need to get down sharp with your towel.
The courtesy bus, which runs during the day, to the Old Town, the "Strip" and the sister hotel Santa Eulalia is a god send, although for around 15 euros you can get a taxi to Villamoura, the area around the marina is well worth a visit.
If you go to the beach at Santa Eulalia visit the sister hotel (5star) and use their facilities, you'll need to get someone to let you in through the security gate but it is worth a visit.
The meals were reasonable with a great selection for breakfast, although the evening meals left a little to be desired, and tended to be lukewarm rather than hot.
The older of you will as I mentioned earlier probably prefer taking a walk down to the Old Town for your evening entertainment and the younger livlier of you a trip to the Strip. During our stay the air conditioning throughout all areas of the hotel was definately needed, the rooms don't have a fridge so if you like your pre dinner drinks cold, you will need to hire one (3 euros a day) ask at the reception, the safety deposit boxes are the same price.
We had a room at the back of the hotel which got the sun in the morning but by lunch it was in the shade, fine when your looking for somewhere cool to sit after a hard days sunbathing.
There are two supermarkets 5 minutes walk away downhill and these are the best places to stock up on water, or booze, for you room as the hotel bar prices are a little steep, (especially if you drink Guinness 5 euros a can!!)
We didn't go on any trips but some of our fellow guests felt they were a bit on the expensive side, you could probably use the local bus service and get to the same places a lot cheaper.
The Old Town Square is being refurbished at the moment but don't let this put you off going down for a night out, Bar Street and Tunnel Street are full of live entertainment and wonderful restaurants - we can recommend Baillote Restaurant for a meal with a bottle of Monte Velho to round it off.
I feel if the hotel revised it's entertainment then it would lead to more people staying in the hotel in the evening but until then it's the one thing that really lets it down!

Fab Hotel

My husband and I spent a lovely week at this hotel on a half board basis. The staff could not do enough for us, the rooms were comfortable and kept spotless and there was always plenty of food at the buffet breakfast and dinner. We used the courtesy bus quite a lot which took us to the Old Town, the Strip and the beach. We thought this was a great service. We would recommend this hotel and hope to return soon.

Fantastic Hotel in Albufeira

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had the pleasure of a week’s stay at the beginning of May and there are only good things to say about this place. We flew with FlyGlobespan from Glasgow and booked the hotel through their website.

We arrived late on a Friday and had a quick check in and were shown to a very nice room that was roomy, very comfortable, clean and modern. There were two balconies overlooking pool area, which was nice. We dined in the hotel only once and it was fine. Breakfast was good apart from the dreary scrambled eggs!

The hotel’s public areas were very comfortable and you could choose to be in a quiet or noisier area to suit your self. Prices in the bar were a little bit expensive but the service was excellent. The staff we encountered were generally very accommodating and friendly – and very presentable.

The pool area was a little bit small which could be a problem when the hotel is busy but when we were there is was just fine. There was a spa / gym that we did not use but looked very good. The indoor pool was just fine.

The hotel’s location is within a residential area about five minutes walk to the main road and shops. The old town is fifteen minutes walk to the west and the Strip about the same to the east. We tended to walk out and get a taxi back – not costing more than 4 euros.

Overall we had a lovely relaxing break and were very well looked after. We would heartily recommend this hotel.

Excellent Hotel

from Pascal2
My wife and I stayed at this hotel for two weeks from the 12th to the 26th January 2006. We were on a package tour with Thompson which is always a recommendation in itself. We were made welcome from day one. The room was very nice with a view of the sea. Unfortunately the carpet did not seem to have been vaccuum cleaned while we were there. This is the ONLY complaint and is far out weighed by the friendly hospitality of the staff. The restaurant was excellent with a wide variety of dishes every night. If the weather was bad (rare) the hotel provided activites like a Darts competition, lessons in Cocktail making, or even a tour of the staff areas where the kitchens and support services are located. They even had vast water storage tanks just in case there is a water shortage. In the evenings there was entertainment provided which was quite good. We made friends with the other guest who were as you guessed were 99% British. All in all I would recommend this hotel to you, dear reader.

Lovely hotel, good spa, superb staff!

I have recently returned from a one-week break at the Real Bellavista, having selected it based on the reviews here. I was not disappointed. The lobby was fresh, light and inviting, with high, sculpted ceilings and one of the most spotless, highly polished floors I have come across in all my travels. Check-in was a friendly and efficient process, even though the receptionist was new (she told me later in the week). I arrived in my room to a view of the flags at the entrance and the car park and promptly rang down to request one overlooking the beautiful hills to the side. After a few minutes, I received a call inviting me to view another room before deciding to move. A bellman accompanied me to show the new room and helped me transfer my luggage there and then, before I went down to return the old keycard and sign out the new one. I was pleasantly surprised to realise that I also had a very good view of the sea in the distance, in addition to the hills on my left. The room was large, as was the bathroom, which even had a bidet and plenty of towels, a sewing kit, shower cap, Q-tips and cotton balls. There was a good-sized balcony as well. I treated myself to a full-day spa programme and it was fantastic. They did not skimp on the time, neither did they rush the treatments. I left there after 18.00 feeling incredibly relaxed. Despite the low occupancy during this off-peak period, there was a bountiful array of fruits, breads, pastries and cereal at the buffet breakfast, in addition to fresh juices (pineapple, orange, apple, tomato), cheeses, vegetables, sausages and some of the best omelettes I have ever tasted at a hotel. I was surprised to see baked beans and mushrooms in the lineup, catering of course to the British clientele who go abroad and promptly demand British food that they would not normally make for themselves at home. This hotel is on a small hill away from the overcrowded areas, which is a big plus, but it is only a 10 to 15-minute walk away from the typical shopping areas. Furthermore, the very efficient shuttle takes guests to the Old Town, the tourist/expatriate "strip" and the sister hotel, the Santa Eulalia, which is by the beach. I was able to use the facilities at the Real Santa Eulalia because I was a guest at the Real Bellavista. Indeed, they were happy to welcome and assist me, even though I was not staying there. There is a charge per half-hour for using the computer in the business centre at the Real Bellavista, for example, but use of business centre facilities is free at the Santa Eulalia hotel. On a tour of the latter I discovered that the rooms and bathrooms at the 4-star Real Bellavista are actually (much) bigger than those at the 5-star sister hotel, which is substantially more expensive, largely due to its location and additional facilities. It thus works out better to stay at the 4-star and use the facilities at the 5-star on the rare occasions that this becomes necessary. What impressed me at the Real Bellavista was the service. The staff members, from the bellboys to the receptionists to the shuttle driver and especially those in the spa, were courteous, friendly and helpful, without being intrusive. They gave tips on making the most of one's visit freely, without trying to profit from it. It was evident that they truly care about the wellbeing of their guests and the hotel's reputation. There were a couple of little quirks, but nothing that blighted my holiday, thanks to the staff. I shall be back!

Lovely Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just returned from 1 week B/B at the R.B.V Hotel. This was a very good hotel with courteous staff (apart from 1 guy in the restaurant in the evening). Breakfast was good, plenty of variety.
The room was very spacious and it was cleaned every day with fresh towels. Our room was at the back of the hotel with the view not very good, but very quiet. One downside to the hotel was the Gym, you had to pay 5 Euros to use it. No where in the review did it say there was a cost. The pool was said to be heated to 27 degrees and the indoor pool to 28 degrees, but never, it was so cold.

Our daughter enjoyed the Mini Club and the staff supporting it were very good.

The evenings entertainment in the Bar area was repetative with a guy playing the piano and singing. Bing and a Quiz.

We used the hotel bus to the Old Town and the strip which was always on time, but the last departure is 7.00pm which can be a little early for going out to eat.

The Poolside Bar served good food at reasonable prices.

Overall a good place to stay, very clean and well mainted nice pleasant staff.

Pleasant place to stay for a week or so

from MickeyMax
The RB is a nice, pleasant enough place to stay for a week or so of Portuguese sunshine. We stayed B&B only which worked well as we then had the freedom to choose where to eat out in the evening (recommend old town fish restaurants near to fisherman's beach which were lively and the food was better than strip etc).

The RB pool area is clean although quite small and gets packed quite early so grab your lounger in the morning. Alternatively take the shuttle bus down to Fisherman's beach or to St Euleulia hotel (sister hotel of RB) where there is a small but nice beach to relax on. The hotel's pool area is also a little more spacious - you can get a key to access all hotel areas by asking at reception (you will need this to get through the security gate to access the beach unless you ask a hotel guest to open the gate for you). There is also a nice beach bar here.

The RB pool bar is clean and the snacks are quite good - the staff here are really helpful and friendly too. We tried room service one night however this is not recommended. Poor food, cold and late to be delivered - stick to eating out and you will have an enjoyable stay!

Fab week at The Real Bella Vista

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just returned from a lovely week at the Real Bella Vista Hotel. We just had bed and breakfast. And the choice at breakfast was excellent. Rooms were bright and very comfortable. Staff are very friendly too. I liked the idea that the pool area was not opened until 9 o'clock so there was no rush to get a sun lounger!!! We made use of the indoor pool, jacuzzi and Spa facilities. Would definitely holiday at this hotel again.
