The stay at hotel rocamar was great: lot's of space in the room, very clean and the staff is very helpfull and friendly. It's location is very close to the beach and in the evening, ther's no noice at all. The only dissapointment was the lack of variation in the breakfast buffet and the staff at that time (who were too busy to smile at all).

Historical Traveller Reviews of Hotel Rocamar

from keh123
Had a lovely holiday at The Rocamar, late August early September. Location, rooms food, and views were fantastic, especially when diding outside overlooking the beach!
.It is a few steps from the old town, which was really good at night, to stroll around, full of atmosphere.
My only complaint was, paying for sea views which were obviously not available and the not so helpful reception staff. I booked a double room and had to wait until the next day day to get the sea view that was paid for months in advance. I also booked for a couple of friends and they too had to wait to be moved. Not a good start to the holiday. I have just received a call from yet another couple of friends who are there at the moment and they too are waiting to be moved to a room with a sea view. This is the main attraction of the Rocamar, the beautiful sea views, but if they are not available, they shouldn't keep charging for them!

Best Location in Albufeira

from apw63
After 4 visits to the Albufeira area in the last 15 years or so this is definately the prime location.
The Hotel was far better than we could have imagined, spotlessy clean, helpful staff, great location for both day and night activities.

We stayed in August and were apprehensive that it may be overcrowded but the location of the Hotel ( 5 minute walk to town) was both close enough or far enough depending on your preference.
We stayed B & B and the breakfast was excellent plenty of choice, the Evening Buffet was also excellent value all you can eat for 12 euros including a drink, alcoholic or soft, if you didn't wantto eat in the hotel, then Albufeira has resteraunts galore to cater for all tastes.

The Beach was also a 5 minute walk and there is a sun terrace with a small dip pool if you wish to stay at the hotel.

Finally it was very cosmopolitan which was also refreshing, English, Irish, German, Dutch, Danish & Portugese were all resident which was very pleasing.

All in all we cannot praise this Hotel enough and it is also very reasonable for a 3* though as already said it is more of a 4*.

Next time we visit Albufeira we will definately stay here again

brilliant hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Was an absolutly brilliant hotel. fabulous views of the beach and only takes a minute to walk down the steps to the beach. The rooms were very clean and fairly spacious, three of us sharing a room fitted in quite comfortably. It doesn't take long to walk into the very pleasant old town of Albufeira. There are plently of restaurants and bars to choose from but if you want a busier night life the new town is only five minutes in a taxi costing about 4 euros. The restaurant in the hotel is fairly basic but for 10 euros for a four course buffet it is more than adequate. All the staff are very friendly and as we didn't go with a tour operator we found them very helpful with all our questions. There are various trips that are booked at reception and leave from outside. An absolutly brilliant hotel and holiday and would recommend it to anyone.

Absolutely Fantastic

Stayed here in June 2006 and had a terrific time.Am a regular traveller to Albulfeira and was recommended this hotel by a customer of mine and was not dissapointed.
Do not take any notice of the building work moans on here in the old town square, it is now finished until October when there is only minimal work left to do, its on the other side from the rocamar anyway , about a mile or problem.
The hotel should be 4 star no problem and you cant complain at 45 euros (£30) per night per person with a seaview (after 15 th september it goes to 35 euros per night per person....£20).
The location is second to none,. music stops at 11.15pm so you can have a quiet night, and only a 5 minute stroll on the flat to the old town square,if that. Or .there are 3 or 4 good seafood restaurants and a couple of bars 100yds or so from hotel if you wish.
The staff are very friendly and have all been there for a long time, 10+years and even the manager took us out in his car one night to a restaurant he liked and dropped us off, it was off the beaten track and out of this world, says it all doesnt it.
Book this hotel direct on Rocamarbeachhotel and ask for rooms either 112,114,116,130,202,204,206,208,212,214,216,230,402(this was my room, fab), 404,406. These are all sea view and are not on the side of hotel. Then book your flights seperately on Easy Jet in advance for best deal although there are other flights available then get a cab from Faro direct to hotel, approx 45 euros.
Acess to the lovely beach is down a very easy path that is very easy to walk down as it goes back and forward to take the steepness out.
It also has a lovely small pool on 3rd floor overlooking the sea where you can cool off and a sun deck to relax and read.
Cannot recommend highly enough, Enjoy!

Beautiful Hotel! Great Location! Great Price!

from DanielleChicagoIL
We got very lucky in selecting this hotel when we arrived in Albufeira. I would call this
a four star hotel! We can't believe the great deal we got! 75.00 EUR. for a room with
a sea view! Very modern hotel with all the accomodations. They have a very nice pool. Great location. Five minute walk to town. Great breakfast included. Buffet with lots of selections. Restaurant with outdoor seaview seating!

Great Location. Cant fault hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
I must admit I was a little apprehensive due to the reviews regarding the building work going on in the area. Please do not let this put you off - the works are almost completely done and there are no problems in the area surrounding the hotel. It certainly did not have any effect on our holiday.
The Rocamar is a lovely hotel in a fantastic prime location. 5 minutes walk to the old town and the beach literally on your doorstep.
The rooms are very well kept and very clean - it is worth paying the little bit extra for a seaview room as the views and the sunsets are fantastic to see from your balcony.
Breakfast very good and overall I would rate this hotel as a 4* and not 3*.
I would definitely come back and I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a clean, comfortable place to stay in a top location at a reasonable price.

Only ono time

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel is on the beach and is a old hotel.
the service(staff) of the restaurant is also old and have a minimum of different food.
there is also no place on the restaurant and bar for no smoking
The airco on the room is old and nearly dead
there is on avery room no table on the balcony
The seeside rooms have a nice panorama over the ocean
We ware here for 8 days and the next hotel is not a 3 but a 4 stars hotel

Great Hotel, Shame About the Resort!

from mistyblues
We have just returned from the Rocamar Hotel (3/4/06) and can truthfully say it lived up to all of our expectations, it is superb and we couldn't fault it. It has fantastic views of the ocean, is well located and having been recently refurbished could easily pass as a 4 star establishment. Our sea facing rooms were very well decorated and very clean and for the little extra cost were well worth it. There was a good choice of food for breakfast and for just 10 euros the evening buffet of 4 courses and a drink were great value.
Unfortunately the same can not be said for the old town of Albufeira. At present there is major building work taking place everywhere including right outside the hotel and it is indeed like being in the middle of a building site with workman, machinery, noise and dust around every corner. I think it is highly unlikely the work will be finished before the end of the summer so if you are planning or have already booked to visit I would definitely check before going.

not this year

from frankhitc
visited the rocamar hotel in march 2006, great location, make sure you get a sea veiw room, the rooms are very good and very clean, the food is only average, self service very poor selection. the big problem at the moment with this hotel is that it is in the middle of a huge building site, the old town has been completely dug up, and there are no footpaths
workmen, machines, everywhere, give it twelve months.
the running total for this scheme to finish is 297 days, go in 2007.

Incredible location

from Gran4two
My husband and I were looking for an affordable, relaxing holiday to balance a rather busy trip to London and found the Hotel Rocamar on the internet. The manager was so helpful giving us so much information via email I felt I knew him before we arrived. We took a cab from the airport because we had been warned that it might be difficult to find in the dark (we were arriving at 10:00pm). But our first morning - wow!! That view! We had a sea view room and it was more than worth it. The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was always fresh and filling enough to last through a day of exploring and lazing on the incredible beach. We walked into the Old Town every evening and enjoyed the street entertainers. One tip: buy a beach umbrella in town to use while you are there rather than rent the rather expensive umbrellas that are on the main part of the beach. We bought one for about 12 euros, cheaper than 5 euros a day for an umbrella and another 5 euros for the beach chair. We also bought great beach towels and I managed to squeeze all my purchases into the suitcases to bring home, but at the price I would not have felt bad leaving them behind. (My husband's golf bag took the umbrella) And speaking of golf - it was fantastic! As was Gil, our waiter every evening who showed me how to mix his famous Sangria. All in all, the best holiday ever. We are planning to return.

Top Local Tips for Albufeira

Sir Harry's Bar For great music played by fantastic musicians go to Sir Harry's bar in the square.

airport taxis if you book your holiday separately get a private taxi especially the company that the rocamar hotel used. the airport taxi drivers are nutters, drive far too fast We paid £10 each per night booked through - don't think anyone can beat that!!
