Value For Money

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is a superb value-for money hotel.Traditional style, not all marble, glass and chrome! The food was very good and varied,in the ten days we stayed at the Estalagem we did not have the same menu, veggies are well catered for.The rooms are comfortable, but basic. The pool is small and maybe alittle crowded in the summer, but it is clean and well stocked with sunbeds etc.The staff could not be more helpful& friendly. On the minus side is the location, on a hill so it's quite a steep schlap to the main square so not suitable for the less active.Taxi back cost four euro. The other minus is the smokey small bar.

We didnt get our suites!

We booked our stay with the Estalagem online with a travel agent, the hotel happily accepted our supplementary payments when we booked 3x junior suites. On arrival the receptionist, who was from Blackburn, gave us our cardkeys for the rooms and told us where to find the rooms, i was there with my fiance and her parents, we entered the rooms to find they were in need of some serious decoration and the balcony over looked a school playground and there was an awful noise coming from the electricity cables outside the balcony, the rooms were not suites of any description - they were twin rooms, very poor ones at that. The hotel manager denied we had booked the suites and told us there were no other rooms/suites available, i spoke to first choice and they were brilliant within minutes the hotel had magically found three rooms. We chose the tower room above the dining area with a view of the beach, albeit from a great height. On this balcony the plaster was coming off the walls and there was a huge crack in it too. The food at tea time was very good, probably the only saving grace for this hotel, there is no way should it be a four star, 2 star would be more appropriate. We walked to the beach regularly which was lovely but horrendous coming back up, any way my calf muscles are nicely toned now! I would never stay there again. I arranged for a bottle of champagne to be left in the future in-laws room on arrival as a surprise (arrange by direct email with the hotel), they put it in the wrong room! then charged me 22 euro's for it; in every shop i found, the same brand of champagne only cost 3.95euro's. This place definately needs refurbishing, thanks to first choice though for sorting out the problems.

What a climb!!!!!!

from SalopiansShropshire
My friend and I booked this Hotel with Comos. No where in the brochure did it mention ON TOP OF A HILL. I believe it does mention it in the 2006 brochure. WHAT A CLIMB. I feel sorry for people who have difficulty walking as they would have to use a taxi whenever they wanted to go out. Our room was ok and was cleaned daily. The food was ok except for having cake and icecream evey night for sweet. Also the food could have been a bit hotter. People were complaining about the choice at breakfast, we thought it was ok. We were told the pool and area is not cleaned on a Sunday!!! it was covered with petals and leaves. We did our best to clear it while we had a swim. The entertainment is not up to much same thing every week. Would not go there again.

Our room was too small. Towels not changed every 3 days. Food average. Desserts terrible. Next to a school which was very noisy. At the top of a hill. Had to rely on taxi's. Not mentioned in brochure. Not suiatable for people with walking difficulties. Would never go back and would not recommend. Not a four star hotel in my opinion

Quiet, clean hotel - good choice

from A TripAdvisor Member
For the price, this is a 3.5 to 4 out of 5 hotel. It is at the top of a steep hill which would not be ideal for the less mobile unless you are prepared to take taxi's all of the time. Breakfast was plentiful with a good choice. The pool area was a bit too small for the number of rooms the hotel has, but the beaches are superb, so at least there's a good option. The rooms and the hotel were cleaned regularly. Our room was a decent sized room for a couple, although the balcony was quite small. There is a decent sized and well looked after bar, which has entertainment every night (usually easy listening performers). By British standard it's not a 4 star. Albufeira is a good resort for couples as it has enough night life and restaurants to fill an evening, but perhaps less to do for those wanting a full nightlife experience.
For seafood, check out Ruina restaurant on the sea front down past the main square - not cheap, but if you like fresh fish its worth it!

lovely hotel

we stayed at this hotel in july for a week, we knew when we booked that it was on top of a steep hill, which really didnt cause any problems, you can get taxi to top. the hotel itself is clean, the food was good, the staff were friendly, we went out every night but there was entertainment at the hotel, we would definately stay at this hotel again.

Definitely not a 4 star hotel.

We were at first disappointed when we got to our room. Very damp and a little bit smelly with a dehumidifier in the room. I would describe this hotel as quaint and old fashioned. And it definitely attracted an older clientele. The breakfast was boring and only ok. We did get moved to a different room eventually when we complained of a leak in the air conditioning. This room was much better. We had our 5 year old daughter with us and she enjoyed the pool. The childrens pool was shaded so very cold but she enjoyed the adult pool nonetheless. The first time we asked about the playground it had to be opened by the lady in the snack bar. It was filthy. My daughter came out black from head to toe. We obviously did not use this again. However, this hotel has a good location removed from the main town but not too far away, even though it is all uphill. They should certainly change this from a 4 star to maybe 2.5. As for Albufeira its a fantastic resort with lots to do and lovely beaches. Just check your accomodation thoroughly and make sure you read all reviews!

excellent holiday

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just returned from a weeks stay at the Estalagem Do Cerro. This hotel was excellent in every way, the staff were very friendly and helpful. the room was clean and comfortable, slept better here than at home. The food was exceptional plenty of variety and well presented. The entertainment was very good most of the time, good fun!
We had not booked to stay at this hotel so were unsure what to expect but we would definately stay there again.

Good hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel is ideally suited to a relaxing holiday, it is in a relatively quiet part of Albufeira well away from 'the strip' and within easy walking reach of the main town square and beach. On arrival at the hotel, we were greeted with friendly staff, a lovely clean room (much better than expected) and also a lovely dinner. Myself being a fussy eater, i found the food to be very good the majority of the time. The breakfasts were buffet, with lots of choice and the dinner alternated between a set menu, a choice from a menu, or a buffet. Vegetarians were well catered for, and also there was a selection of other meat for those who disliked fish and seafood. The hotel bar has a different event every evening, from parrot shows to 'pub' quizzes, and there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere. If you are looking for half board acommodation in a hotel catering for the 'quieter' holiday, this is the place to go.
