Historical Traveller Reviews of Clube Humbria Hotel

Bit of a letdown

from woolyback
Just got back home after 2 weeks at Clube Humbria ( seemed a lot longer ).

Very disappointed, not up to 4* standard , I would give it a 2*.
The good points were large and clean rooms most with nice views except for the blocks at rear of complex overlooking lot's of building work. Now for the bad news, most surly and unhappy staff I have ever experienced, this can be put down to being massively understaffed, be prepeared to queue for the dining room for all meals, and leave plenty of time when you have a drink in mind as this can take an age.
The pool bar regulary serves the snacks stone cold, and beer is served in a plastic cup mainly consisting of froth. I was told they had a problem, they sure have, I complained at reception that the bar I was hoping to get a drink from, had been unattended for ages, I recieved a look of disdain and no positive response.
Such a shame our first taste of Portugal ended this way, we will certainly try Portugal again but never Clube Humbria.

great for kids

from nmlc
lovely clean spacious apartment, beds made and clean towels everyday.
if you want a sun lounger with an umbrella around the pool be prepared to get up between 4am & 6 am.
ten minute walk to small but lovely beach, not too many shops but enough for gifts and essentials.
food absolutely fantastic, the queues are generally just in the evening around 8ish, but once seated there are no queues for food at the self service buffetts.
kids loved the freedom and i felt safe to let them roam the complex all the guests are families, there aren't any yobs.
overall very relaxing holiday, no cooking, shopping or worrying about the children.

Somewhat disappointed !

from Kath5
We have just returned from a two week stay at the Clube Humbria and were somewhat disappointed with some aspects of our holiday. The appartments were lovely - really spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean, but the complex overall did not have the capacity to cope adequately with the number of guests staying there. There were vitually always queues for the restaurant and having only one main bar(where entertainment is held) seating approx 100 is totally inadequate. The staff were always run off their feet and there was a long wait to be served.A small lobby bar remained open at night but there was rarely anywhere to sit.The pool bar shut at 6pm and if this had been kept open it would have helped - lots of people went outside at night even though there weren't that many seats there either. The food quality was good. There was a good choice of salads but the choice of hot food was disappointing - much more limited than are used to in 4* all inclusive hotels or even 3* for that matter. The swimming pool area is lovely, but there were not enough sunbeds - most were reserved from 6am with half of them remaining empty for huge lengths of time - something which surely management could prevent by simply removing the towels from those not being used.Olhos D'Agua itself is a quiet place with a nice beach and the Algarve is lovely - we hired a car and visited many places in the area, so we had a good time, but I would not recommend staying at this hotel in peak season.

Very Disappointed

from A TripAdvisor Member
Having read reviews on this Hotel we set of with great expectations, arrived last week in June and Hotel had overbooked and did not have the two rooms we had booked over a year ago!! we were all put into one room for the first night and told to report to reception in the morning when we would be allocated our two rooms, camped out at reception untill two thirty the next day waiting and finally we had our two rooms not together as requested though, these were immaculate and had plenty room for clothes etc. Fridge was a bonus as we had to buy our own drink as their was no way we were waiting for 20 minutes at the bar to get one there, kind of defeated the all inclusive part of the holiday. By the 2nd week of our stay the Hotel was mobbed and we queued on average for 20 minutes for each meal, everyone was complaining and the poor staff were run off their feet. Had we gone to this Hotel out of season I think we would have felt differently about it as all our complaints were really down to a lack of staff, the Manager of the Hotel told us that there were 750 guests at any one time in the Hotel due to people from a Neighbouring Hotel apparently having the use of the Club Humbria as well, the bar seated roughly 100 people and rarely were their more than one or two bar staff on duty. Entertainment I thought was really poor compared to past experience lacking in energy and drive and could not be heard or understood over the noise of the pool so nobody knew what was going on. Only a handful of kids with them at any one time. Food was good and most staff were helpful. Would not return to this hotel during the Summer Months.

3 star not 4

Just back from a week spent at the Humbria in the Algarve. The hotel has seemingly a four star rating, this is very optimistic its more like a three star.

Positives first, Hotel and accomodation are clean and extremely well maintained. Staff are friendly and all the amenities advertised are available. Appartments are large and ideally suit families. Location we found was good, quiet which suited us,and i would recomend hiring a car for the duration of your stay to avail completley of excellent local beaches and attractions.

On the negative side, rooms were uncomfortable with poor beds both for adults and kids.Pools are not heated so it does take till mid afternoon before swimming becomes pleasant. Dining space and bar space is not sufficient for the amount of guests so get used to queueing. We found this a particular problem and made us very frustrated.

Not for couples

from A TripAdvisor Member
We went as 3 couples & came back Saturday 1 July.

The rooms were spotless & had a lounge area with sofa beds. The restaurant was also spotlessly clean, the choice of food limited with just one fish dish and one meat dish each evening but it was well cooked and delicious. There was a good choice of salads & desserts.

The pool area was nice although as sunbeds were bagged from about 6am it was sometimes difficult to find one!!!! This was annoying as then you'd find that people had gone out & were not using the beds until later in the day. The hotel should stop this practice & also provide more beds. The beach was within easy walking distance & sunbeds always available although a small charge made for the day's use.

There was no particular lounge area for a quiet drink, it was the main thoroughfare from the entertainment area to the outside with not much seating. The entertainment was not as good as where we've previously stayed & it was difficult to find a seat unless you went in straight after dinner.

We did have a good holiday but it was very noisy as there were lots of children & therefore we certainly wouldn't recommend this hotel to couples but it would probably be ideal for families with young children.

We loved our holiday here

from cazlilly
We returned from Clube Humbria on Thursday 29th June and i have to say we all had a wonderful time.

The rooms where fantastic, very clean, bigger thank i expected and the air conditioning is great (although we weren't in the room that long each day), the only little problem i would say is that the sofa beds are very hard!

The restaurant is very large and always spotlessly clean, the choice of food was great, one fish dish and one meat dish each evening (none are ever repeated within a fortnight), i suggest though if you or your children are fussy eaters then this might not be the place for you, we however as a family, love trying all foods. The salads were great, lovely and fresh, puddings good too. We didn't have to wait too long for tables (and we were a party of 8).
Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all of very high standards.

The pool is lovely, the only problem is that brits abroad get very possessive over there sun loungers and insist on putting there towels on them about 5 hours before they want to use them!!!! Very frustrating.

We had a day out at Aqua Show and this was brilliant and good for children all ages.

The beaches in this resort are spotless, the resort is quiet but when all inclusive it doesn't really matter, not to us anyway, we would prefer quiet than noisy.

The childrens clubs we didn't really use as we were too busy body boarding in the sea or swimming in the pool or having siestas of course. However the childrens disco doesn't start until 8.30pm which is a bit late in my opinion, and evening entertainment doesn't start until 10.15pm.

Overall we had a faulous holiday here and i would be happy to recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to this area with a young family, don't understand why couples would want to stay here, its all family orientated.

I would be happy to answer any questions you may have before booking, please just email me, you will only hear good things though!

Not Much to do

from alied
Just got back from Club Humbria and was expecting better than what we got after reading other reviews.
We found hotel in a village with a few little shops and bars, not really the quaint little fishing village as described and bascially nothing to do in the evening to get away from hotel and kids disco. Hotel was ok if you have young children as these where left to run up and down all night but not really suitable for adults travelling without children who would just like a quiet drink on an evening and a bit of decent entertainment.
The bars were really small and being all incusive there was not enough staff serving at them therefore causing quite a queue. The food was good but again had to wait to be seated this also caused another queue.
We found the hotel rooms to be nice and spacious and a lovely view of the pool, but the maid service was let down by the fact that they never made beds up till late afternoon, only actually changed the bed once and on arrival the room was spotless clean but i think that the only hoovered the room once a week ready for next guests, on a daily basis you get bed made, couple clean towels if needed, bin emptied and 1 toilet roll !!

Would visit Algarve again but would hire a car as there are some lovely beaches but you need a car to get to them, and would choose resort with more to do.

This is NOT a 4 star hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We returned yesterday after a 2 week stay and must say we did have a great holiday. We always stay 4 or 5 star and beleive this hotel does not deserve its 4 star rating. The hotel does has some excellent points but is a bad let down in other areas.

The good points first. The rooms are excellent. They are spacious, very clean and with the best air conditioning, remotely controlled, we have ever had. Everywhere is clean and well kept. The staff are very friendly. The entertainment is pretty good and the animation team look as if they are enjoying what they do. The kids mini club looked excellent. Breakfasts were very good. Lunch and dinner always had great salad choices, amazing fruit selections (you could not get better) and wonderful puddings (you could not get better)

The bad points. Food for the main course was only 1 fish or 1 meat (no choice of meats or fish). This was a big let down as sometimes (not often) the meat was not up to standard although the fish was ok. There is nowhere to sit in the evening unless you manage to get a seat in the bar (no lounge, nowhere quiet to have a read or play cards, no tv room). There are definately not enough sun beds. (I got up at 7.00am to go for a jog most mornings and even then half the beds already had towels on). There are no poolside towels provided (bring you own). Bar service is slower than slow (if you get served in under 5 minutes this will be an offial record!). The hotel grounds are very small, in fact there are none except the pool area. The hotel is not in the least bit palacial for a 4 star (just walk to the Riu Palace Hotel and compare).

We judge our hotels by asking ourselves would we come back next year. The answer is definately no. Families with small children most likely would come back (I am sure they had a good time) although the beach is too far away. This is not a bad hotel, it is a good hotel (for a 3 star).

excellent for family holidays

from JEW2
Excellent hotel for families. A very safe complex for little ones. Food excellent & varied. The local wines & beers available in the "all inclusive" package was good. Pools, & poolside spotlessly clean. Rooms a decent size, and again, spotlessly clean.
Kids club fantastic...something to keep them entertained throughout the day. Varied activities for adults too!! Kids disco at night was a bit repetetive, but the kids didn't seem to mind at all!!
As in previous reviews, I would say that the bar service was slow, but hey...what's the rush?!!!!
If Clube Humbria was "non-smoking", I'd give it it 's not, then perhaps 99%!!!
We hope to return!
