I have had 2 horrible experiences at Starwood hotels in Warsaw Poland. The most recent was the end of July when staying at the Westin Warsaw for 2 nights. I was in Warsaw in order to be present at the US embassy with my fiancé for an interview for US visa. Due to problems with her passport we had to leave Poland on an urgent basis in order to return to her country and get a new passport issued. We were attempting to make a 1.30 PM train from Warsaw but during the stress we realized that I had left my US cell phone in a taxi cab that we had taken from the US embassy back to the Westin hotel. Our luggage had been left in hotel storage and on return we asked the front desk to make a FREE calling card call to a local Warsaw number so that I could reach my cell phone in the taxi and hopefully have the taxi driver return the phone. After 15 minutes of explaining the urgent need to make the call, the front desk at the Westin told us that since we had checked out of the hotel, it was impossible to make a local call except to use the business center. We went to the business center next and waited close to 30 minutes for a hotel agent to came to service us - then explain again that we could not pay or make a FREE local phone call. At this point I said we need to speak with the hotel manager. The service person said that was impossible and it was not able to make a local phone call. I located the management office for the hotel and again the business center agent told me I could NOT go into the office to speak with hotel management and said I had to go back to the front desk. I ignored her instructions and went into the management office anyway -and fortunately the staff there allowed us to make the call to the toll FREE Polish number for my calling card. The taxi driver heard the call, returned the phone and took us to the train station where we just barely made the ONLY train from Warsaw that day due the the hotels inability to let us make a SINGLE FREE call.
