Excellent Hotel

We stayed here for 6 days with our 2 teenagers & all of us found it to be an excellent hotel as per previous reviews. I have a couple of observations. If you want to eat in the beautiful restaurant in the evening, check that it is open & not being used for a private function as it was on 2 nights of our stay. Secondly, the internet connection didn't always work but I don't think this was confined to the hotel as the nearby internet cafe also had problems.

Loved the hotel but set up on the tram

Hi, We have just returned from a four night stay at the Polonia Palace Hotel in Warsaw, beautiful hotel, we had heard about the breakfast and it is to die for, so much food and such variety. The rooms were very nice and clean with fresh towels every day and the staff very polite and helpful. We ate in the dining room one evening and availed of the special offer of 15 euro per person for a two course meal which was very good. The hotel is very central right across from the palace of culture and science. We had a great time and would highly recommend the hotel. The only sour note to our trip was on the sunday morning. We were told by the hotel receptionist that we could take a tram to the market a couple of stops from the hotel and that it was possible to buy the ticket from the driver when we got on board. There was six of us so we asked the driver for six tickets to the stadia, he completely ignored us not even trying to negotiate with us and obviously called the ticket inspector who came on board and accused us of breaking the law, it was a complete set up, the inspectors work on commission and are assisted in catching innocent people like ourselves by the driver. The fine per person was 120 pln, we tried to explain that we were tourists, he was quite rude and we were very scared as another big burly guy arrived out of nowhere and they were obviously not going to let us get away, even though we had offered to buy the ticket from him. He eventually took 60 pln from us all, obviously put straight in to his pocket as we received no receipts.
Take care to buy your ticket before you get on the tram no matter what you are told,and do not give them the opportunity to rip you off.

Excellent Hotel

Just back from a 3 night/4 day visit to Warsaw.
My partner and I, along with 2 friends, stayed at the amazing Polonia Palace Hotel.

Getting to/from Frederic Chopin Airport (Warsaw Airport)and the Polonia Palace is extremly easy by public transport: Take bus #175. A 3-day public transport ticket costs 12 Zloty (Polish Currency) which is approximately Eur 3 and is great value. The journey on the #175 bus takes about 25 mins (almost as quick as a taxi as traffic levels in Warsaw heve not yet reached the usual capital city gridlock that exists elsewhere in Eurpoe). The hotel is located opposite the Palace of Culture which dominates the skyline and so acts as an ideal landmark when locating the hotel or if wandering about the city (Old Town and the popular Nowy Swiat street are a pleasant 20 min walk...or take bus #175 which also serves these places)

The Polonia Palace hotel is very impressive outside and in. The good sized rooms are spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated and well equipped with TV, writing desk & chair, over bed LED reading lamps, toiletries, minibar, in room safe etc.

The large lobby has plenty of comfortable seating while the Strauss Cafe (luxurious coffees, hot chocolates, cakes etc.), Bojangles Bar ( mainstream jazz and piano bar) and the very plush hotel restaurant all serve excellent food and drink at reasonable prices by very well trained and courteous staff. In fact, the same can be said about all of the staff at the Polonia Palace.

I can strongly reccommend the Polonia Palace Hotel as a perfect place to stay when in Warsaw.

Very Impressed

My father and I stayed at the Polonia Palace in September 2005. We were very impressed with the hotel. Our room and bathroom were well-apointed and clean. Hotel staff were very helpful, such as calling for taxis. Most staff were fluent in English. Bojangles Lounge and Vienna Cafe both had wonderful food at very reasonable prices. The breakfast buffet was unsurpassed in quality and variety. We will definately stay here on our next trip to Warsaw.

Excellent rooms!

I spent a week in the hotel and it was technically flawless. The room was perfect with excellent view to the city centre (although you can also have a less good view). The bathroom was also in premium condition and had your TV sounding from the speaker mounted in the ceiling.

The single room had a properly sized cozy bed as well.

The fitness sports centre downstairs had some gym machine and was really open 24h with the sauna. For free. But the solarium, which was also supposed to be for free, was actually for extra fee.

The location is in the complete heart of the town and I'd definitely go back there another time.

my husband ,myself & our 15 year old daughter just returned from a week in polonia palace. fab hotel . great breakfast everything you could wish for, a treat. food in bojangles bar also lovely. friendly staff , huge warm bedrooms with big comfy beds made it a very relaxing place to stay & we will return to stay here again.
only complaint having paid 24z (€6) from airport to hotel on arrival we were shocked when having accepted offer of hotel taxi on checking out to be charged 60z this was a total rip off. we paid & got on with it as we had such a nice holiday & didn't want to dwell on it but be warned in future decline hotel offer of taxi!!!!

stayed here for 2 nights and paid 98 pounds through octopus travel. as this was our first trip to Poland, we booked the limo service direct with the hotel at a cost of 50 zlotys.This turned out to be a private taxi, but as we arrived at rush hour, we felt it was money well spent.
On our arrival we were greeted by Sebastian the bell boy / porter who was a fantastic find and helped us during our stay to find good places for food and jazz clubs. The hotel reception was just as described and the staff were polite and spoke excellent english. We asked for a room overlooking the Palace of science and culture and they willingly obliged.
The room was on the medium size, tastefully decorated and the bathroom was beautiful.
Breakfast was as described by previous reviewers and yes the ommlettes are fantastic. Even my wife found plenty to eat and she is a fussy eater!!
The hotel is situated about 30 mins walk from the old town, indeed you can access almost all the sights on foot.There is a local supermarket and an indoor market opposite the hotel where they sell good, cheap vodka and food, and a 24 hour deli type shop 200 yards away.We found however that 2 days is'nt enough to do Warsaw justice and will return again.On our return to the airport we caught the bus which stopped right oppisite the hotel. Cost 2.40 zlotys and was quick and efficient.

Had one night at the Polonia.Booked online for £47 in June so expected only a reasonable hotel but the Polonia is far better than expectations.Beautiful renovation,inside and out,returning the Polonia to its former glory,contrasting with most of the surrounding buildings.It keeps its pre-war style but with a spruced up look.Friendly,helpful staff,new impressive rooms,and delicious breakfast with good variety.We had great view of central Warsaw ie Palace of Culture but one downside is that its a bit noisy with the trams and traffic so if sensitive then ask for room away from the main street.Didn't try internet but plenty of internet cafes around and very unfair of previous writer to mark down just on that as most hotels have inflated internet prices.

Wonderful Hotel with a Great Staff

We stayed for 2 nights last week at this beautifully restored hotel. It reopened in the spring of 2005 after being closed for a couple of years for renovation. The rooms are clean, modern and very comfortable. The free breakfast in the morning is 5 stars! served in the beautiful dining room. Location is perfect with the train station a 5 min. walk away, tram stop just feet from the front door. The staff (including those who speak English) were helpful and offered excellent advise and directions. The place is GREAT! and I would stay again in a heartbeat!

Good, but be warned excessive extra charges

We had a good stay. As per the other reviews this is a beautiful hotel. The room was good. King size bed. Great bathroom and shower. Breakfast was good in a spectactular setting as others have said.
However a few points that others may be interested in:
- internet costs are amazing excessive. 1 hour is 66 zlot (this is $27 Australian dollars!!!!). The internet cafe near the corner charges 3 per hour and is fast and you can take your laptop.
- in house movies are even more expensive than internet useage!! There is a great cinema across the road, and many films are in Engligh with Polish subtitles.
- car parking is extra and on the street in a very insecure setting, causing us much anxiety.
The concierge was the most helpful I have ever encountered on a positive note!!

Top Local Tips for Warsaw

Makes Sense Make a trip to Sense on Nowi Swiat, one of the best restaurants I have found in Warsaw with a real fusion menu. They make damn good mohitos too.

buyer beware Be careful of taxis - ended up getting seriously ripped off on two occasions ie three times the cost of the journey, this could have been because I and my colleague were obviously foreign and female. Main ripoffs came from taxis leaving the old town. Think it's MPI or MPT taxis that are most reliable

Getting around Get youself a map at the tourist office at the airport. Also, ask them if one of the buses goes near your hotel. If so, it is so cheap and easy. We used buses and trams all the time, a 3 day pass is 12 zloty (about 4 euros) and covers bus, tram, and metro. All the tourist sights are easily accessble by bus. If you get a bus ticket, you must stamp it in the yellow box inside the door as soon as you get on (for a 3 day ticket, just stamp it once the first time you use it). If you're caught using an unstamped ticket, then you could be fined. I found the pubic transport system to be much better than at home in the UK.
