Top Local Tips for Warsaw
Auschwitz Trip We booked a trip with FunnyTours.com to Auschwitz @1400 zloties. We were picked up from the Hilton by Mark our driver at 7.45am to make our 4 and a half hour trip. When we arrived at snowy Auschwitz Mark was invaluable. His respectfull knowledge led us to the points of "Interest" and his directions allowed us to visit more of Auschwitz and Birkenau than if we had been alone. He was extremely informative and such a delight to have as a guide and we would recommend anyone going on this tour, to book FunnyTours.
Watch out, they're looking for you. As a frequent international traveler, I recommend watching out for the "do you need a taxi fellow", 99.9% of the time, it's a rip off, and they're looking for the lost foreigner. Usually outside of the departures area you'll find a taxi kiosk/queue with a relatively reputable group. If not, head upstairs to the arrival area, and catch a taxi that some weary traveler has just let go, arriving at the airport. 9 times out of 10, you'll get a reasonable deal.
Airport cabs Do not accept a cab from the guys who meet you in the airport after you clear customs. Go to the official cab lineup outside the terminal The cabs are first rate and can be 1/3 the price of what the hustlers in the airport will charge you. They wear an official looking badge on a chain around their neck but don't be fooled.
