Top Local Tips for Paszkowka

Must See!! A full tour of the Wawel castle is outstanding and the amount of time spent is really up to you. A night at the Opera Krakowska is a breath taking experience. Tours through the theatre are not available unless you are attending a performance. Box seats are reasonably priced but book well in advance and ask for seats A & B. This theatre is truly a piece of history and not to be missed. Wieliczka (salt mine) requires a lot of walking so be prepared. There is an elevator available for the trip down and up but it is still 3 hour walk through 20 chambers at a depth of 327 metres. Fascinating but exhausting for the older tourist. Oswiecim (Aushwitz-Birkenau) ..an emotional day but historically essential. The tour is NOT necessary, go on your own and plan on spending a full day...bring lots of film and tissues....a very draining day....you must approach it able to go at your own pace and with the time to read and see all that is there. Kizimierz Tour of the Jewish District is great!

taxi Use a company called "city taxi" made life easy for getting around krakow

TAXI SERVICES ON DAYS OUT The Palace organised a taxi for us visiting the salt mines and the taxi driver could not have been more helpful = he was such a wonderful ambassador for his country - he looked after us so well ensuring we got the correct tickets and took us to the ticket office and showed us where to queue and stayed in the car park to be sure we found him after our tour. He then stopped on the way back to the palace to allow us to spend a short time shopping in one of the smaller towns enroute. We used him on a number of occasions and he gave us his card to allow us to contact him whenever we needed help and were away from the hotel on trips. He was a really charming man and helped us get the most from our Poland experience. he showed us extra historical sites when visiting Auschwitz - very moving. well done to him - he was a great ambassador for Poland
