Top Local Tips for Modlnica

Our trip to Krakow This was our second trip to Krakow, having enjoyed it so much last time. This time it was more expensive, with a weak pound and some prices increasing. It was still cheaper than most European cites however. Our flight was with Wizz Air from Liverpool to Katowice. They describe it as Krokow, but it is actually Katowice some distance away. The flights were very comfortable (wide leather seats) and on time. The only shortcoming was the high cost of the in flight food and drinks. We paid for extra legroom (only £3.50 each way) and this saved us the fight to get on the plane, as they were reserved for us. Katowice airport in my opinion is better and more modern than Krakow airport. We travelled to Krakow in 1 hour 15 minutes giving the opportunity to see the Polish countryside. For the airport transfer we used Bob Taxi (www.bobtaxi.com.pl) and found Robert the owner driver very friendly and helpful. We paid 280 z?oty each way for the trip. We stayed at the Rezydent Hotel just off the square. This is a great location but the hotel had some problems (see review). During our visit we did the following activities: - A river boat trip from the Castle. This cost 15 z?oty each for a 1 hour trip and was excellent although lacked a commentary. - A trip around the City on an electric golf cart. This was excellent value and allowed us to see all the sights with a recorded English commentary. - A trip to Schindler’s factory and the sculpture remembering the sorting of Jews in the Ghetto. - A trip to the Jewish quarter to see the Synagogues. Last year we visited Auschwitz and the Salt mine and would strongly recommend these. Part of the experience was the dining and drinking. We had some excellent meals, and would recommend the following: - Miod Malina Restaurant on Grodzka street. Great Polish food with excellent surroundings. - Szara on the Main Square (eat in or out). Great a-la-carte food, with an excellent Bouillabaisee. - Orient Express on Stolarska street – French food with railway carriage theme. Overall our stay was fantastic. I have some tips: - If you want a quiet time with no stag parties – go midweek - Stay within walking distance of the main square - Some Polish toilets have symbols instead of men/ women signs (triangle for men, circle for women) - Don’t drink shorts other than vodka as they are very expensive - Visit the local food market on Rynek Kleparski – the fruit and veg. Makes you wish you lived there. - Learn a few words of Polish like ‘Thank you’ which is Dziekuj? (pronounced jen-queer).

Transfers from the airport There are lots of taxi firms advertising on the web for airport transfers. We chose KrakowShuttle, and they were excellent. Booked online only 48 hours beforehand, confirmed by email. Smart Mercedes minibus, very friendly driver, only 70zl. At the end of our stay, the same driver picked us up right on time. Thoroughly recommended.
