Great location. Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms small but adequate, it was very hot but a fan was provided in the room. It was too noisy to keep the window open all night. Beds very hard. Breakfast ok, restaurant being renovated, but discount offered at sister hotels.

Beware; they try to palm you of to another hotel, with a story about broken pipes. Stand your ground and say no way. We refused to go anywhere else, and they suddenly got it sorted.

This hotel was lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and it was warm (we went in December.. it was -6 outside!) Great value for money.

Great location, smart hotel.......but

I have one complaint about the RT Monopol, the bar closed at 12.00 midnight!
The hotel is in a great location, and we found the staff to be happy to help you in any way they can. You are close to the main square, yet also on the tram lines to get around if you want to go further afield.
We enjoyed our stay in our comfy room, and would go back in a heartbeat!
If they manage to sort out the bars opening hours!!!

just arrived back from this hotel great location may only be 3* but treated like 5* guests staff very helpful nothing to much trouble we had early morning
flight from kotowice airport and when we checked out
they had a goody bag waiting for us drink,fruit,and 2
barms stayed in 5* never had that before would stay there again only would fly into krakow airport as the journey from katowice was one and a half hours in taxi

Good value, basic accommodation in great location

We ended up at this hotel by accident, we had originally booked into their sister hotel the Regent in the Jewish district but when we arrived, they only had an attic room with 2 single beds – and we had booked a double.

The Monopol has a great location, 5 mins from main square and 15 mins to the Jewish quarter. Rooms nice and warm with adjustable heating. The bit we stayed in seemed to be a more modern part of the hotel. Double room is 2 singles pushed together as you find in most European hotels but the beds have a wooden frame all the way round which means there is a huge gap in the middle. Breakfast was average so we only bothered on the first day. First night we were there, the people in the next room were extremely loud, and I had to ring reception twice, 1.30am and 3am to complain – not something I’ve ever had to do! Altho not the hotel’s fault, they did call the room next door to ask them to be quiet as we heard the phone ringing – maybe the walls were just pretty thin.

Overall a good choice if you are looking for basic, good value accommodation in a good location but not ideal if you’re on a romantic break with a loved one.

Clean Comfortable 3* Hotel

Have just returned from the Monopol. The rooms are very clean and warm, you can adjust the heating to suit. We booked a double room but instead we got a room with 3 single beds. The room was very spacious. The view from our room was nothing to write home about it was overlooking the car park. The breakfast was adequate and filling. The staff were courteous and friendly. Good English spoken. They were happy to arrange tours, wake-up calls and taxis. The location of the hotel is really very good, very close proximity to the Market Square, the park which surrounds the City is literally across the road. One tip though make sure you take a kettle and a hairdryer as these are not in the rooms. Also note the hotel is next door to a small well stocked supermarket for any items you may need. All in all good value for money we paid under 50 pounds per night. For eating out would highly recommend the Wentzl Restaurant which is in the Wentzl Hotel overlooking the market square. We really had a fabulous meal here with wine and liquers for about a third of what a meal of this quality would cost in London.

Adequate Budget Hotel

Found the Monopol to be a standard budget type hotel. It was clean, and had everything we needed. The staff spoke english, and were helpful. Good value for the 55 Euro we paid, but nothing special.

Ok, nothing to write home about

I and 2 friends stayed in a triple room for 3 nights at the end of Jan06. Location is very central-about 5 minutes walk to the main square. Reception staffs were not very friendly- we asked for a small glass of milk to make teas in our room and were told to go down the street and buy some. Rooms were ok size but quite basic as were the breakfast. My advice would be to pay a little more and stay at the Radisson.

On a positive note, Krakow is great for a weekend and there is plenty to so such as Auschwitz and the Salt mines. Eating out is very cheap and I would recommend the beef filet at the Metropolitan.

Stayed in this hotel between the 26/1/06 - 29/1/06. The rooms are spacious and contained everything that you required to make your stay a comfortable one, The staff were great extremely helpful and happy to book you any tours or transfers you required. As well as this the location of the hotel is superb about a 3 minute walk to the main market square and a 3 minute walk in the opposite direction to Wavel castle about 10 minutes walk to Kazinierz. The buffet breakfast is good as well with both a selection of hot (scrambled eggs, Frankfurters) and cold (cereal, ham, cheese, bread, fruit yoghurt to name but a few) food. All in all i would say that this is one of the best places you will find for the amount of money it costs and would recomend it to anyone who is planning a trip to Krakow.

Great Hotel

Stayed in the RT Monopol in Dec 2005. After reading certain reviews of this Hotel we were a bit nervous. However, all our fears disappeared as we walked in. The Hotel is clean and tidy the Staff are curtious and friendly the room was warm, clean and had plenty of space. The breakfast was simple but unless you want a full english there was plenty of choice. It was only a short walk to the centre of old krakow and the Christmas markets. Waking up to snow on our first morning made it even more special(although the Hotel had no influence in this) . We booked Auschwitz and the salt mines via the Hotel more expensive than doing it yourself but less hastle.
If you go to Krakow and want value for money then the RT Monopol is for you.

Fabulous hotel, in a great location, would definately recommend. The rooms were of a decent size and very clean.We had room at the front of the hotel which looked out onto the park, whilst my husband had a afternoon nap, I sat in the window and watched the world go by.

Definitely recommend this hotel

A great choice if you're looking for a reasonably priced, central hotel. Our room was warm and clean. The bathroom was very new and the shower was great. A bit of noise from next door (so if you're a light sleeper, I'd recommend earplugs.) The staff were lovely - very helpful. The best bit is that it is just minutes' walk from all the main historic sites and the nightlife. Our room overlooked the Planty and the Old Town and it was really atmospheric to wake up to the (quiet) sound of bells from the churches nearby. Would definitely recommend!

Top Local Tips for Krakow

Good quality public transport. All the attractions are available by public transport at fraction of the cost of organized trips.

Auschwitz a must We hired a local taxi for a party of 6. He charges us 400 zlotys which is about £80. considering he had to drive over 40 miles each way, wait for 6 hours and he took us from door to door, it was money well spent. cheap as chips!

Trips and Tours We arranged trips to Auschwics and the salt mines with the taxi driver who bought us from the airport. I would recommend this, especially if there is a group of you. Worked out a lot cheaper than organised trips and more flexibility.
